just discovered a quarter 1982 that is clearly made of the wrong metal looks sort of like zinc or diecast , it does not say copy and its details look right it does not ring when flipped just a thud sound .anyone ever see anything like this is it fake or a error perhaps it was struck in penny core 1982 was first year some lincolns were not copper ,could it be a switch over error caused by the new white metal being around?i do not have coin right now just picture a gray quarter thats a little lighter than usual?I:secret: told friend i would try to find something out thanks let me know if you can help out there? ...shawn

With no more information than this I'd guess it's probably plated but it could be off-metal (valuable) or counterfeit (worth a few bucks).

Most likely it has been plated with something...but again, we need pictures to really be able to tell anything.

It could be a trial experimental metal dont remember any for that year though

Several possibilities come to mind but they all seem most far fetched. Without more information one has to suspect plating.
