Can you test a 20 spot from 1950 with those counterfeit yellow pens? My cashier thinks this 1950 G FRN is counterfeit and I'm not certain that the pen test works for them.

No, because the paper is a bit different, with those the paper was wet when they printed them, later on starting with the Series 1963 notes the composition of the paper changed slightly. The earlier notes do not have the same chemical reaction to the pens.

OH MY LORD ... even if the pen 'would' work, their are better ways to see if its real then using the pen :)

are you just stirring the pot on this thread Ruben??

No - how many 1950 bills do you see in a Pharmacy.

BTW - it is darn hard to see counterfeits today. They look real. They feel real.

I have a contemporary counter-fake... it looks real shabby. I have yet to see one that looks as real as a real note - not that they dont exist. And if the note was faked by a faker that is so good as to make them look that real - i am sure they used suitable paper.

When I got the counterfeit $100 back in October and handed it back to the teller, that was the first thing that the teller did was hack at it with the stupid counterfeit pen. Like it would have done any good, the thing was printed on a bleached out $5 bill so that Lincoln's watermark was where Ben should be.

She proceeded to tell me that the note was real - until I showed her where Abe was instead of Ben.

Sounds like a teller is in need of more training.

I see lots I have a 5 here that I bought just the other day out of good old cvs. Though I could kick myself I only bought the 1950 5 1953 red seal and 1953 silver certificate and left the 3 old 10's that were in great condition.
