I was a bit disappointed. I've been searching them lately and have had a decent outcome. Usually finding maybe on average one silver every 3 or 4 rolls. The last 65 rolls though I haven't found a one. I'm a little disappointed!
OUCH! I got so used to finding them fairly easily that now after going through the $650 and not finding any I'm a little frustrated. I did $500 Saturday and not a one and then the other $150 tonight and still not a one. Not so much fun when I'm not finding anything! LOL
Back in 1979, when silver was making its dramatic rise, I rode my bicycle 10 miles up to Pea Ridge, Arkansas, and got all the half dollar rolls I could afford, I think about 20 rolls, from the Bank of Pea Ridge. When I got them home, I found one roll of 40%, and 2 or 3 90% silvers. I ended up selling the 90% coins for $8 each, and the 40% for $80 for the roll. Since that time, the only luck I have had finding silver halves has been a near roll of 40% I got at another Arkansas bank a few years ago. And once in a while, I will find a 40% or 90% silver half in a foreign coin grab bag that they occasionally sell at coin shows here in Japan.
I remember the last $500 bag of rolled Kennedy's I went though I think I found 3 40% coins. Not my best bag.
I have had absolutely no luck with half dollar rolls, I have much better luck by going into banks and asking if they have pre-1970 halves. Another suggestion is to make friends with your local 7-11 cashiers - they often get the results of peoples hardship having to spend the saved stuff for smokes or beer. I have gotten several 90% and lots of 40% that way.
I went through 800 in halves recently and only found one that I kept....just because someone had drilled a hole through it! That was it, though. I ended up putting it on my keychain.
