I'm working on inventory collection for our coin collection at http://www.tomscoinworld.com and was wondering what does everyone use to snap pictures for showing details of coins.
i use my plain old Sony F717 for taking my pictures. But i am taking imges of the whole coin. I have some .. ok, i cant remember what they are called, but they attach to the end of my lense and add magnification.... but i got a set of those coming in to take shots even closer. I do know some folks use USB camera's or microscopes to take REALLy close images of RPM's and such
I have found that my cheap $100-combo-Epson-scanner-printer-copier works pretty well for me -- except for capturing mint luster -- so it's great for all of my coins that are not shiny.
I think your photos are good enough for the range of coins you are selling. I do professional numismatic photography for a few clients, but the items I generally photograph are in the $1,000-$50,000 per coin range. I charge $10 per coin and do full catalog quality images and will break them down to web-digestible size at no extra charge.
