1940 quarter

    I Have a 1940 quarter and the material is not like any other coin I have ,, it is light and shiny and almost feels fake ,, does anyone know if this was a fake or a misprint .. thx

    Post a picture! I highly doubt it is an error, more likely a counterfeit made from aluminum or tin.

    It's probably just a normal 90% silver quarter. They are lighter, and have a different feel than a clad one.

    Impossible to tell anything without clear images. Best to hold off on guessing until enough information is posted to make an educated assessment.

    My bad I didn't realize it was a first post. I thought he meant it was different than his other silver quarters. Definitely just a silver quarter.

    Actually the silver quarter is heavier than the clad quarter (because silver is denser than copper and nickel):

    silver - 6.25 g
    clad - 5.67 g

    Thanks Hobo, I should have look up the actual weights. It's interesting though IMO the silver quarters feel lighter than the clad ones, lol maybe I'm just crazy :rolling:.

    Lol I was afraid that might be the case. I guess I'll just have to join the club :D. Btw when is the next meeting Magman :goofer:.
