Welcome to the old west and Morgan country..it wasn't such a bad place after all..but seriously at different times I've created artwork (acrylic paintings) incorporating elements of the old west, also beaded leather belts with Native-American design motifs as well as backpacking trips to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and the Mt Whitney portal in the Sierras. I've hiked around ancient Anazasi sites in New Mexico. Overall, I can't get enough of the majesty and mystery that is the west of yesterday and today. And that's the part that's grand..the landscape is so vast you can get lost in it and still feel the way someone felt in the 19th century seeing it for the first time.
I am a new collector - I collect as a hobby and investment . Morgans in High Grades - some of them have good appreciation . Silver Bullions - Mapple Leaf , ASE , Britannia Old Gold Coins - Difficult to grab with the prices currently they sell on ebay etc. Examples are : Swiss Francs , French Angels , Napolean Francs Series Indian Coins - Coins from British India - I have a good ( quantity wise) collection of Brit India coins ...Annas , Rupees .
I collect: Coins... Wheat cents. My main thing! Older US coinage (barber dimes, v nickels, indian head cents) Canadian large cents Canadian silver coins Caribbean proof coins Silver 1oz coins Others... I have lots of Pokemon cards from when I was little, lol Complete LEGO sets w/ boxes. Notes! Stamps! Some of my other hobbies include: SCUBA diving (will be gone for 2 weeks later this year ) Saltwater aquariums Downhill and freestyle skiing Road/mountain biking Radio control helicopters, and cars (some of which travel 80mph) And snorkeling when I'm not scuba diving. I'm a busy guy, but I enjoy all of it
I collect mainly certified Morgans, but I'm also trying to complete a dansco album of lincolns, and one of jeffersons. I also collect some baseball memorabilia, but mainly coins.
I'm in to saltwater tanks too, keeper....nanos mostly. I just picked up a BioCube 8 that I'm going to set up later this summer, after we move. That is a pretty cool commemorative Chasva, though I'm not sure I'm going to be able to fork over that much for a single coin in the near future. The '04 Lewis & Clark might be a better goal for me.
Oh lets see Barber, Mercury and Roosevelt dimes. Lots of those. additionally bust halves, and coins for my type set. Oh and I'm always looking to upgrade my lincolns, but its getting harder as everything I have save one key date is VF or higher. Additionally there at lots of little things I am into as well, but none of that qualifies as set collection.
Does anyone besides me collect Morgan's on steroids, also known as Bryan money? I collect just about all U.S. exonumia and its reference material except for Vegas gambling chips. Motorcycles and wooden block planes are also tending to accumulate.
stuff in circulation My collection goes back to my roots, when I was a kid, and could only afford to collect what was in circulation at the time, and so, I collected: Indian Head and Lincoln Cents Jeff Nickels Roosevelt and Mercury Dimes Washington Quarters JFK Halves . . . and that's pretty much it, even today (with the new addition of the various dollars). No proofs, no SMS's, no commemoratives. Oh . . . and I collect relatives, too (i.e., I'm a genealogist).
So am I! I've been at it since I was 12, I even volunteer and have taught at my local LDS Family History Center in CT.
Hey me too!! I think that is why I'm really enjoying coin collecting, so much history there. Currently, I'm collecting Morgans, Peace Dollars, Walking Liberty halves - in my youth I collected Lincoln cents, and have 4 almost-completed Lincoln cent folders. I started my grandkids on the state quarters just to get them interested, which they really seem to enjoy, also the presidential dollars.
Wow, I have a lot of collections!! I collect coins-- current US coinage. I have an extensive stamp collection from when I was a kid. I stopped in the late 80s because the USPS went crazy (are you paying attention US Mint?). I also have ball cards from the early 70s and early 90s (I'd like to sell them, I think. Anyone know a good company to deal with?). I also actively collect commemorative Coke bottles. And, I like the turbo Chrysler products of the 80s and early 90s. Lots of interests!!!
If I had to answer this question now, I think I've settled on Morgan Dollars, ASEs, and State Quarter Proof Sets for the next six months or so. At that point I may reassess.
I collect old U.S. Coins. Not the modern stuff though. The main reason I collect is the history in the coins. how they came to be and what they went through and what they symbolize. And the artwork. I also have a decent collection of baseball cards (don't collect now, but still have them) I have a pretty big collection of rocks, gemstones, coral, fossils, tumbled beach glass, and stuff of this nature. I collect these because they remind me of a trip, person, or place and/or a certain piece interests me as I pass by. I'm facsinated by nature and what it produces. That's also why I like to plant in the garden, fish in the mountain rivers and streams, camp, and hike. And right now, I'm collecting masses of homework pages in my school binder.
