Lehigh, my roommate has a bone to pick with you. As I looked at your type set, I literally yelled "Wow!" and woke him up. Luckily he fell back asleep in minutes and hopefully won't remember waking up. A truly impressive set. I also loved the PR67 Buffalo I myself am working on a 20th century type set. I'm only missing 3 coins for a complete set: Buffalo Nickel type 1, 40% silver Kennedy Half, and 40% silver Ike Dollar. The two latter shouldn't be a problem and I am planning on getting them PCGS MSxx once I get my next paycheck; the nickel might take me a few paychecks. The thing is, as a starving college student, I often have to decide between a) eating this week, or b) getting a super shiny new coin. The upside is that I am uber skinny and have many shiny coins. :goofer: Cheers!
I have to agree with you Ardatirion. I'm currently working on : Roman empire : one of each emperor set Plautilla Denari minted in Rome : 3 more to go Divi series of Trajan Decius antoniniani : 7 more to go Dombes coinage : far from the goal Q

Working on a Dansco 7070, maybe a 1/3 of the way through. I'm trying to keep it to AU or above. I know there will be some coins I'll probably have to drop down to XF for budgetary reasons.
I've been working on all sorts of type collections: US 20th Century US 19th Century British monarchs from Elizabeth II back to... whoever Spanish monarchs of the Americas Japanese coins from the Meiji era to date (excluding the gold, which is prohibitively expensive) Canadian coins since Confederation And the thing is, I'll probably never complete any of these sets, except, maybe, the US 20th Century.
I have a Morgan with varieties, circulation strikes Set on PCGS going. So far I have 16 MS63 or better coins and it's growing weekly. I think I am 12% done.
I am doing the: -50 State Quarters-almost done, except for some D's and the territorial -Whitman modern coins for each year and mm-almost done aswell -Canadian coins since confederation -Dansco 7070- 40% done (or whatever it says in my siggy)
I'm just about finished with a dansco u.s. type set album, but I've kinda slacked off on finishing it to focus more on my Lincoln type set that most of you already know about. Finally got my 2009 Lincoln silver dollars, both proof and uncirculated, and I have a few more coins to get (not including the proof 2009 cents), being the Mt. Rushmore commemorative and $5 gold, 1918 Illinois half, and the final one being a 1909 -S VDB....that one will probably take me a while. I'm really trying for all proofs when possible, and I'm trying to get all certified by NGC.
What grade are you striving for? I am the same way about the Morgan 1895 Proof, I WILL Have one someday... a 95 PR63 just sold March 6th on Heritage for $43,000. I better start saving...
Yea well, I am still working on the common years. lol Are you saying hit the keys first THEN the common years? I guess that would make sense because if we are talking about years and years to complete my collection, the keys would be less difficult to find now than then, and cheaper.
That IS the best way to go, if you can afford to. Higher grade coins will be worth more and easily liquid. Plus they are so amazing to own!
I'm working on a US Type set, 1793 - present, but with some provisos... Certain types are too expensive, so I probably won't have identical designs on different denominations. For instance... Capped Bust Left gold. The 1808 $2.5 is insane. So I'll let a $5 suffice for both denominations (that is tough enough). Same for Capped Bust Right (where I'll probably settle for Heraldic Eagle only). I collect designs and motifs rather than types. For instance, the 1796-97 50c type is insane. It's obverse is identical to the easier 1801-1807 coins, and the reverse similar to a 1795 50c. So I'll settle for the easier two, and forsake the '96-'97 altogether. No need to stop at regular issues. For instance, I have a strong 50c section, so I've expanded into patterns, California Fractional gold, and commemoratives (old and new). Makes a great display. Halves are not just silver, but aluminum, copper, and gold as well ! Similarly, early copper can go back into colonials. I have little desire to "fill holes" for the sake of filling holes. No fillers !!!!! A great coin is a great coin. That's all I want. Better a hole than a dog.
The Merc and Roosie are both very ill. Looks like splotching from pvc damage. The rest are reeeeely nice!
I would say it's better to get the common stuff first, so you can get a feel for the series. Keys are nearly always plagued by counterfeits or altered dates/mints. I've been in this hobby for 40 years, and yet I still hesitate to buy a key coin because of the potential for fakery.
Q:Are you working on a type set? A:Yes, I collect type. Q:Have you finished? A:No, nowhere near finished, and I suspect I will never finish the set. Q:What is in it? A: Duh, type coins. :goofer: Q:What grade are the coins? A: Just about all grades, from FA-02 to MS-69. Q:How far back does it go? A: I am collecting all types from 1792-date. My earliest type coin is a 1793 Chain Cent, followed by a 1794 Liberty Cap. Q:What do you include? A: Currently, I include all major types as defined in the PCGS type set (basically a redbook type set). Q:Raw or certified? A:Both. You can see most of my collection here (and subsets on the NGC and PCGS type set registries): http://www.pbase.com/miker/coins
Looking at my Whitman album, I see that I am lacking more than half of all series except nickels-- I was able to find all but the George V, George VI tombac, and 1946-47 George VI nickels during my brief sojourn in Canada. But my Whitman album is so old, it doesn't even show the Charlottetown dollar or any of the pure nickel dimes, quarters, halves or dollars.
Check your buffalo nickel page! I just stumbled onto that site when searching for buffalo nickels on google images and I recognized your rainbow toned proof. I went to the website and made a comment as a guest.
