I dont post alot in the coins forum, and hopefully i as get deeper and deeper into taking the pictures needed of all my coins, i will be here to visit more often I have been meaning to jump through the needed hoops to get my coins posted to my site, but taking good images is always tough. With my wife and kids gone for the week i though i would dive in and see what i could do. A recent post to my sites guesbook guided where i should start So, to see all the commems i added today (i even re-did the American Bald Eagle pictures i had posted, the new ones are much better) just visit this link  I still have lot of commems to do, a total of 50 or so. Todays addition: Added KM-338, KM-362, KM-376 (including the stamp that goes with this coin), KM-394, KM-418 (With a Medal for this coin), KM-405, KM-438 and KM-439 (Including a medal for this coin as well) Alot of places show images of the commems. I have not noticed many who show other items like medals and stamps that come with some of the mint sets. Take a look, and if you have any comments of suggestions on the pictures, they are welcomed
Yes donate the West Point one to Me LOL as you might gather from that comment I realy like it, the Corinthian style helmet looks wonderful
Well done on your coin images. Proofs are notoriously difficult to image, at least for me. And your site setup is very appealing too.
Nice commem's Dagg. BTW, when I click on the bronze bald eagle along side Teddy Roosevelt it shows an image of the bronze Little Rock Nine. Might want to tweak that.
thanks everyone takign images of the proofs was easy at least with the setup i am using... its the uncirulated or even circulated i am having problems with. i flood the area with light, but i still get those stinking dark spots. I may need to reduce the amount of light, and add a higher lightsource then what i am using. i think with the new direction, it will eliminate the dark spots.... we shall see! green18. you were right.. it seems i just set the wrong link for that coin its been fixed! thanks for letting me know lol
thanks i do likle how they look, but it also makes me wonder what defects might be hiding. I mean, with that deep cameo appearance, is it possible that small defects might be there, but are hidden beacuse of the lighting or somthing else? also - no matter what i do... i cant get rid of all the small dust particles on the coin capsule lol i have tried wiping with a lintless cloth, i have tried blowing air on the capsule ... it just seems no matter what i do, the lint/dust stays I also noticed, that several of the coins in the Mint capsules, have some edge toning on them. I have never taken the coins out of the capsules, and they forever stay in the mint packaging. Is that a problem? should the coins be taken out and stored in a different manner?
Know what you mean about the dust particles....as for something being hidden in those images by the way you've taken those photos, I really wouldn't worry. It's been my experiance that photo images seem to bring out more "flaws" than can be seen with the naked eye or magnification for that matter. Regarding the edge tonning, of late I've been kind of subscribing to the "Lehigh" school of thought and tonners just don't seem to bother me any more.
Awesome work! Hmmmm I wonder who it was that bugged you about your commems? Love the pics and the write ups.
Nice pictures...nice site too! Gotta tell you...I'm willing to sacrifice a BRAND NEW, UNCIRCULATED roll of 2009 Lincoln Cents for that 1914 chicago $5 note... MY LOSS IS YOUR GAIN! lol...if you sweet talk me I might just throw in a stamp too hahaha jk nice site though
yeah jaceravone i wonder and thanks for the comments everyone. it took me alot of saturday to come up with that format. The format i use for currency and most other coins just didnt fit, but i was thinking i just may use a similar type format as this to my US currency when you get into the FRBN's, when you have 70 years of the same design... (but thats a different forum lol) with the commems, i wanted to say what the coin was and what it was about ... but i got to thinking that the whole point to the commem series was to help raise money ... so i thought it would be cool to see where that money was going i have a ton more commems to image, crop, and post. I hope to get alot of them posted this week... so i will have to stay busy
i will tell you this... if you look at alot of the proofs, if you look at the edge just inside the rim, alot of times you can see this blurry white 'thing' that is not part of the coin ... (look behind LIBERTY on this image. alot of my images will have similar blurs near the edge) ... that IS my camera I get within 2 maybe 3 inches of the coin... so if i am not DEAD center on the coin, you will see that reflection of my camera rim. I can see if prior to taking the image, but alot of time, no matter what i do, i cant get rid of it completely. So in an effort to not take 4 hours per coin, i do what i can, and push the button
The static electricity is a major problem with the dust adhereing to the capsules. Have you tried useing a wrist static attachment, like the one you use when working on computers ( grounding yourself) along with a quality terry or shammy cloth? Might work, has for me.
i havenet tried the shammy, but i have used 2 different terry cloths. i will have to bust my original shammy (not the new cheesy one with 'camera guy ) lol I also added a bunch load of new commemoratives tonight. Added KM-325, KM-336, KM-348, KM-349, KM-363, KM-375, KM-387, KM-388 just visit my United States Commemorative page to view them all I got most of the sets that were isued as well, so whats listed on my site are some Stamps from the Ben Franklin sets, as well as a couple intaglio printes.
Well, since YOU opened the flood gates I am up to 48 coins posted for US commems. This does not count all the stamps, intaglios, medals ect that come with the sets that are posted. United States - Commemoratives - Added KM-228, KM-229, KM-231, KM-236, KM-240, KM-241, KM-243, KM-246, KM-249, KM-254, KM-257, KM-262 and KM-278. Aside from the coins, there is also a World War II medal that was issued in a set, and another stamp. One thing i have noticed with some of the older commems. With the coins in the Mint plastic, some of the coins are starting to show a 'haze' around the edge, or a light to dark brown color near the rim. The 2 Atlantic Olympic halfs are almost compeltely covered with this brown color. The coisn have never been taken out of the plastic. Is it best to remove coins out of the mint capsule to be put in a better protected capsule? Is this haze or brown color the start of 'toning' or something else. Help
Thanks houston3204 and just to finish off this little project... i finished posting the rest of my commems. 61 different coins, representing 29 commemorative issues. I still need to go back in fill some holes, as well as keep up on new editions... but thats part of the fun lol United States - Commemoratives - Added KM-208, KM-209, KM-210, KM-212, KM-214, KM-220, KM-222, KM-224 Thanks everyone for taking a look.. and not blasting me Really, though, you all have been very generous with your kind comments thank you!!
