Hi, I would just like to mention that the coin shown above, of course is not a wheat ears cent. As mentioned though, it is definitely seen a lot on wheat ears cents of the 1950s. As seen on the coin above, We also see a lot of this on coins of the 1960s. Thanks, Bill
This is not machine doubling. It is related to the reduction lathe when the master hub is made. Sometimes the stylus bounces causing this odd form of doubling. It is not considered hub doubling, is on a whole heck of a lot of coins, and can be discounted as 'normal'.
