A lot of you know that while I appreciate paper for its beauty and artistry I don't really dabble in that world and other than the few silver certs and $2 notes I don't have much in the way of paper. That all changed yesterday. I saw the most outstanding national note. It is a beauty, you can't see it in these photos, but it does have two folds that at one time broke the surface of the paper, and the bottom right corner does show some rounding but the paper is crisp, clean and colorful.

Now the dealer had a pretty pricey tag on this around $350. I talked him way down from that and managed to get the note for $250. I thought I did pretty good overall for a very nice piece. As you can see it is from the first national charter bank of Lincoln, NE. The only thing left for me to do is figure out what this puppy is worth, but even if its only worth what I paid for it I still feel like I got the good end of the deal.

Very nice looking note. I don't really know much about NBN's, but the book I have lists that bank as rarity 4 which equates to 21-30 known. Then in the general large size section of the book, it lists this note (without respect to rarity) as being worth $250 in XF condition. The chapter on NBN's lists it as $175 in VF for Nebraska notes, but again...doesn't differentiate at all based on issuing banks.

Nice buy bq! You seem to have a good eye for paper currency, why did you wait 2 decades? ;)

I just see the same stuff over and over. I've bought a black eagle about 20 years ago, paid $40 for it in VF at the time, and besides a couple of radars I pulled out of circ, I only saw the same silver certs and funny backs and etc, etc. Until I came here and started seeing some of the absolutely stunning notes people posted. Then I started actively looking for something exquisite to add to my collection. And what ya know, this note walked in to my dealers shop along with a couple of woodchoppers, about half a dozen $10 gold certs and 3 or 4 $20 gold certs, a horseblanket, some small size national notes mostly $10 1929s and this. It was pretty good condition and it was about the right price. By the way, I couldn't afford most of the rest of the notes and passed on them. Now they are all gone :(
