1787 8/3 Shilling, unlisted variety?

OK, I'm looking through the threads and as a British collector who does British coins, I'm supposing this hasn't already been asked. I hope I'm not too much of a voice crying in the wilderness here.

Six weeks back I bought a 1787 shilling. This is one of the "No Hearts" type, but within that type it's the variety listed a Scarce in ESC, with no stops either side of the date.

ESC has a footnote to this piece which says that the final 7 of the date may possibly be over a 6, and it was while I was squinting at it through my loupe that I got distracted by the 8.

In a nutshell, it looks like it's over a 3. I can see a sort of spur hanging off the bottom of the 8, like the tail of a 3 but with a sharp serif, and much of the right hand side of the 8 has a "shadow". I cannot see that it could be anything other than a 3.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it an unlisted variety??

    Thanks

    Mule.

Sorry, mule, I can't be of help. Have you thought about posting this in the World coin forum? Perhaps some pics might help as well?

Good luck and hopefully somebody can answer your question.

I'm not a specialist in UK coins, but I do study/collect overdates.
If you post a closeup photo of the date, I'll be happy to give my opinion--for what it's worth (free) :D

I know of the date varieties on the 1787 sixpence,..but have not seen or read of any on the 1787 shilling. If you post a pic, that would be nice.

Thanks everyone for trying... Oh dear, I just knew I'd be asked to post a photo.

I'm afraid I don't have the means to post one, and it's not visible to the naked eye even, only through a magnifier. At best I hope anyone reading this who has one of these coins will have a gander at their own collection. :smile

    Thanks all the same!

I think Krause listed them as no stops(Dots) surrounding the date. Also, i think one without a stop(dot) over the head on the obverse.
