There is a raised area under the 'O' mint mark. Not sure if it's a mis-placed 'O' from an earlier punch, or something clashed from the obverse die, or just an odd raised area on the planchet. Can't find anything shaped that way that might cause clashing. There are no known 85-O varieties with these characteristics. The obverse looks like a VAM 17. It has a raised area in the denticles under the first 8. Opinions on the area under the mint mark? Planchet flaw? Prior 'O' punch? obverse reverse
Hey Nesvt. I don't know the answer to your question, but I really do love the way you photograph coins. Gotta go, I want to check my "85-O. L8tr.
Wow! I'd say yes at first glance, but I'm not aware of it. Looks VERY similar to my 1882 O/O Nice, thanks for sharing
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370182921275 Is this a UNC coin ? Your thoughts please , thanks .
Would need much better pics to be certain. There are obvious flat spots, but they are common on some NO minted Morgans. Provided pics aren't detailed enough to say one way or another. Guy~
