What are these circles on my LMC

I found this cent and noticed circles running around the outside of the coin near the rim. Does anyone know what may have caused this? They do not seem to be scratches, maybe an overused die? The reverse looks normal. QX5 pics are the best that I can do.

They don't seem raised, they fade when the coin is tilted and are seen better face on. Makes me go Hmmmm.

These lines don't seem to effect the devices on the coin. How would lathe marks get on here without damaging something. Are they on the die?

I'm convinced. Is there a premium for these, or is it just another "neat coin"?.

Thanks for the link, it helped a lot. I still have a lot to learn, but I learned something new today!

Definitely lathe marks and they are known on the 1996 D cents. I am not sure what a value would be but they are definitely worth keeping.

    Thanks,

If you could get PCGS or other top TPG to certify it as "Mint Lathe Lines", you would have a real winner, as there seem to be a demand better than the supply. JMHO

Nice BU examples - around $5.

I just went through a dozen rolls of 1996D today and found a number of them. They are only known with this strength on 1996D cents.
