I guess VG-8 "well worn with main features clear and bold, although rather flat"...I'm referencing the 'states' part of 'united states' in particular. Keep in mind, of course, that I know nothing, I'm just throwing my vote in to see how it matches that of others and having fun with the Red Book.
That's the point old fellow....to have fun. And I know nothing about these issues as well. The fun is in learning.....
This is not a coin most can grade including me. My guess is EF-45 but an AU grade would not shock me.
:thumb::thumb: Is it yours????:thumb::thumb: I agree with ldhair XF-45 I would be surprised if it was lower, if it was real. Probably all messed up - but the details on reverse don't appear right. Were there varieties??
I'd say xf-45, eagle's body is rounded with good feather details, bust has good hair details but some flatness of cheek and high areas of hair. It might go AU-50. OK, I'm revising upward. Au-55.
Whoa, guys, I know nothing about these coins other than what I've picked up in the Red Book. AU grades? Seems a little off to me. And if I'm a bit off (and some say I am) please enlighten me....
XF easily, probably low AU There's only about 120 or so 1794 Dollars known, Heritage sold a nasty one 5 years ago for $37k with juice. If that coin gets in an AU Holder, $300K+, an MS61 example brought close to $750k. These are rare and extremely valuable coins and PCGS/NGC tend to be rather generous with grading them. Also, don't forget, these coins come weakly struck, so that's probably an AU coin.
Hm, so you guys are saying that if it's really rare and really old, you have to be lax with how you apply the grading system? Cause I don't know how you get to AU when the lowest AU says "traces of light wear on many of the high points" but the "TAT" in states is almost gone, as are a few of the stars right around 7 to 8 o'clock. Don't get me wrong, not trying to bash the coin at all. It's clearly awesome, just trying to understand the thought process since the majority of you seem to be drifting to high EF to low AU.
I'll give you this much, the left side of the coin is almost always very very weak as it was minted. Ruben
After looking at the ANA guild as well, I can see how you came to that conclusion. But that is not the grade on the slab...not even close really... Ruben
