I have been trying to finally take better pics which will do justice to this coin, but i just cannot get it right. It is quite nice in hand, mostly smooth and hard surfaces, and the reverse bumps not nearly as obvious as in the pictures. (Actually about 20 % of what looks like rim bumps on the reverse are really what is called call rim crumbling). How would this coin net grade today? Thanks! Eduard
Hello Eduard, another VERY nice coin you have there, I never tire of looking at your collection! I am not a copperologist, so will await opinions of the more learned members here, but in looking at your coin I noticed a couple of things. The obverse, I think, has VG details, on the reverse, I was confused because the wreath shows (I think) about the same amount of detail, but the border beads are extremely sharp. Why would this be? It then occurred to me that the "crumbling" on the rim presents a thick, raised ring of metal around the beads, protecting them from wear. Anyway, that is a very interesting coin worthy of some serious analysis, and I look forward to reading what the experts think. Nice planchet, too.
mmm, mmm, mmm. Thats another lovely coin eduard. You must have a world class collection of copper by now. It makes me ashamed of the large cents I have. Fabulous job, and your pictures are getting better and better.
It's a very nice coin, but those are rim bumps. This appears to be die state I or II and States III and IV have nothing like that around the rims on the reverse.
Cool coin, Eduard! Incidentally, this is the only large cent type I've not added to my collection -- so color this collector green with envy.
Obviously it has damage but I don't think that matters much in these coins when you have an outstanding strike and details like this baby! Ruben
I agree with Ruben - who cares about the rim bumps. I love the detail on the coin. Very nice coin Eduard.
Depends on who's doing the grading. In Rickyland - obverse F12. Reverse stronger; F15, maybe 20. With rim bumps and minor pitting, I think this one is EAC 12. I think it would easily pass at a TPG. My guess is they would market grade it F12, maybe better. Terrific coin, you betcha ! I'm sure any of us would love to have this one ! Nice work, Eduard.
