Just for kicks I've been following completed Ebay sales of rolls of 2009 cents . . . prices were crazy, but they've come down a lot lately. Boxes (50 rolls) of cents have been going for between $300 & $400 . . . individual rolls have been going for around $7 to $10 (except for ones that have first day stamps, etc). (All the prices I mention include postage). So, I'm guessing that those cents are finally making it out into the market. (Is it possible that the first orders from the mint are finally arriving? It looks as though the prices are about the same as an order from the mint would have cost, no?) Is it possible that those who said: "wait, they'll be in plentiful supply soon" are right? Heck if I know . . . I'm just having fun passively observing the market. I'll check Ebay every few days, see what the going prices are . . .
The "US Mint" 2 roll set prices are still VERY inflated and will reduce in price soon. As the Mint honors back-ordered orders ebay will have an increase in supply of the 2009 Lincoln sets and the price will decrease.
That's the fine art to flipping. You have to time the market just right. There is a short window between initial issue date and flooding of the market where your profit margin is the highest and the feeding frenzy the most vigorous. Lots of folks want to be "the first" on their block, in their coin club, at their coin store to have a new coin. Some will pay anything for the prestige and envey that being "first" brings. They want to be the big the big man on campus for a while and who can blame them. Who cares if 6 weeks from now you can get a box for $25.00..when you were the first to have one in your hot little hands a month before that. Preparation is everything. That's why folks will be driving from all over on May14. You can expect news stories of huge crowds and coins being limited to 2 rolls per person as the fever heats up again. There are families are hurting for money just trying to put food on the table and this seems like shooting fish in a barrel for many...and to some degree ...it is.
until of course they find out ours have gold in them that were meant for the UHR. then we can begin charging for autographs
Prices are insane for the US min roll set. Selling for $60 plus. http://coins.shop.ebay.com/items/_W...sid=p3286.m270.l1313&_odkw=2009&_osacat=31373
Right. As I noted above. But if it's not US Mint Rolled, etc., prices are coming down to $7 to $10 per roll. E.g., in the last half hour: here -- 3 rolls for 24.50 (incl postage) here -- 2 rolls for 13.98 (incl postage) But, yes, if it has a picture like this: then the prices are still outrageously high.
Sooooooo, what would you do with a box($25) IF you could find one? (I'm told by my bank here in AZ...Wells Fargo, that no banks in AZ are going to be getting them) Keep or sell, and if sell, where and how?
This kind have closed above $90 (with postage). http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-P-D-2-Roll...286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:13|39:1|240:1318
I'd sell about 25 rolls on ebay "buy the roll." I'd open 5 rolls and put them in 2x2's and sell those individually for $.99 each on ebay and lastly, I'd stash 20 rolls under the bed for a rainy day.
