    Hi,

Mother in-law found a 1652 willow tree 3 pence on her property (they often metal detect for civil war stuff), and we got it authenticated. It's it's in really poor shape though. Any idea of value? (It hasn't come back yet from authentication service, so I can't show a pic). On a scale from 1-10 the condition would be a 1.

    Thanks!

If it comes back certified, it is worth lots.

    Sweet

You're kidding, we thought at most $1K. Maybe you'll change your mind when you see a pic - I honestly don't know how they knew it was a coin. If I found it among the dirt I would have tossed it. I guess as seasoned mateal detectors, they have an eye for it. I can't wait to tell them the news!

    I'll post a pic when I get it back - thanks !!! :D

    When you said
I assumed that an expert had checked it out.
    Was that not correct??

oops - missed the question about where it was authenticated...

My husband was the one who sent it in, so i don't know, although I'll ask him. Wherever it was, we were able to see an update on the status yesterday. I don't think the place he used actually sells coins, or even do estimates - they just authenticate. I'll let you know, though.

Depending on the variety and condition, most dug/corroded willows in poor to good condition trade for $800-$4000. There are really too many variables that go into the value that it is almost impossible to give an accurate estimate without decent photos.
