I bought 4 rolls from the mint. I think they are shipping around April 4th, not sure. I don't know if they are sold out. I will call the mint now, and check. Just called the mint, and they are sold out.

Sold out at the mint (fast), HOT item in huge demand, scarcity of 2009 type 1 cents....lots of reasons.

I have 5 roll sets ordered (I hope that the mint does not flake out on me).

Got an email from a company I have bought a few little things from in the past. I am not sure the ones with the mint paper thing on it (kind of looks like it) but they are selling them for $14.95. This is for the P and D rolls. Looks like these coins are beginning to surface a bit

I do not work for this company just using it for an example

Have to agree. Four seperate designs have to come out this year. If you divide 12 months by 4, that would be 3. Meaning all four designs have roughly 3 months to be minted and distributed and then they start the next. Which give people the illusion that these will be rare. When in reality, they've minted over half a billion of them Jan. through Feb. alone!

Haven't seen yet how many more hundreds of millions were minted in March.

Eventually, there's no reason you won't be able to get a roll of these at face value from almost any bank. If you HAVE to have them right now at the top of the hype, then you will pay what will probably be the highest price they're EVER going to be.

i hold the contrarian view that these coins are actually "rare."

there may be 500,000,000+ of these cents minted, but they are not easy to obtain. every $25 box, and every 50 cent roll of the Lincoln T1 that has been released has pretty much been bought by collectors and permanently removed from circulation........forever.

it doesn't cost much to purchase a box for $25 if you can get your hands on one. if you put that box away you have removed 2,500 coins from circulation. it would only take 200,000 collectors to remove the entire population of the T1's from circulation. unlike statehood quarters that cost $500/box to collect. you can collect 4 boxes of cents for $100, or 8 boxes (P&D mints) for $200.

i was able to get a box of the 2009 'D' cents, but i had to have an inside connection at a bank. the banks around me are not releasing the rolls to the general public, but are distributing them to their own employees and their best customers. as news travels about the "rarity" of these coins the bank employees will continue to secure them before the general public has access to them.

this is just my contrarian opinion that all 4 designs of the 2009 Lincoln cents will be extremely hard to obtain so that will make them "rare."

I agree. These coins will be anything but rare. Once the initial hording phase wears off they will begin to hit circulation and be everywhere. High grade BU examples might be a little harder to find (ie more expensive) than 2008...but they will be available.

Well let the greedy ones hoard them, and the fools can pay too much for what's left. Eventually the prices will come down to what a normal human would pay for them. If it takes two years for that to happen, so be it.

This reminds me of why I got out of stamp collecting-the Elvis Pesley stamps. They were hyped to the hilt by the postal service and printed in un godly amounts. I decided to get back to the basics and fill in all the spots that came before and vowed to never purchase anything in the future issues.
The cents are not going to be rare by any means. They will eventually reach circulation and a lot of people who paid a lot of money will be sorely dissapointed. I ordered one roll of each from the mint just have a nice example and that's my limit. Please, my fellow collectors, do not feed the media hype surrounding this issue. I saw a roll of each on Ebay last night for 50 dollars. How will you ever recoup your investment unless you find a roll of MS 67 cents.??:thumb:

I too will have to agree that these will not be rare in a few months time. On the other hand, being the first few people to get rolls of these has an advantage. Guess who gets to find the Low & High leaf on these new bad boys? You guessed it; those fools paying $65 a roll. If I wasn't between paychecks and had an extra $65, I'd buy a nice certified wheat RD cent but that's just me. Cheers!

AND... we can still snag up a 2009 mint and proof set later this year; those aren't sold out (yet).

Prices, today, are already going down (perhaps folks have gotten shipments from the mint now)? I see, e.g., this one (a single roll) went for 10.49 (incl postage) . . . many rolls seem to be going at around that price today

And in the future when they go to sell their treasures they will learn that they have no real value because there are 500 million Unc coins coming back into the marketplace so there is no shortage of available pieces.

Short term they may be hard to get, but long term they wil be very common. How hard is it to buy a Unc 1955-S cent? It has 1/10 the mintage and after 54 years I think you can still get them for under a dollar. And that's retail, not wholesale.
