Thad, Great looking Lincolns! Plus I wish I had the equipment that you have to take your pics, WOW! I can't even come anywhere near to that nice. On your 1998-D, what causes the brush mark look to it? Chuck
I also noticed that same effect on some of the 2006 20th Anniversary Silver Reverse Proofs. I have even seen some PCGS PR70 that had that effect. Did anyone else notice some of those? I just wondered what caused it.
Metal flow when the zinc planchet was rolled out and then amplified by the copper coating.....that's my theory. Some may say die polish lines, but the strange thing is they are all parallel and in the same direction. I have couple zincolns with very profound lines acrossed the surface. I've posted pics and had a lot of discussion in the past, the conclusion was the lines are actually in the planchet. It's believed the planchet surface may actually have some texture to it, although, oddly, I have yet to see this on a blank.
I think you are probably right....my best guess too. I am doubting they are polish lines, as they are not across the face or head in any way. I believe there were a few years that they had mixing problems and they minted several woodies, where it eventually looks like wood and they are streaked like that. I wonder if that might have anything to do with it. Great looking coin anyway! Chuck
Thad, while all of your photos are excellent the obverse of the 1993D at an angle is spectacular. Here's a nice coin. : )
As you can tell, I've been very seriously working on my Memorial series. I have at least 10x the time in these compared to my wheats. They are a royal *^$%@# to find! The master hub was so worn this year, it's impossible to find one with sharp IGWT, not to mention a well struck reverse with full steps.
