I just had the good fortune of replacing my damaged FLYING A film studio token (holed and shot with a pellet gun) with an excellent one. They were established in 1910 and were one of the first studios to use California locations, settling in Santa Barbara in 1912. In 1915, they changed their name to AMERICAN FILM, but folded in 1920. One of the buildings is still standing. To many of us here, it is all about the history...
The reverse of one of the above tokens was reproduced on film prop coins. Los Angeles Rubber Stamp Company - James Monroe Token - Bird of Paradise White metal, 38 mm, 20.68 gm Obverse: James Monroe facing half left, wreath and ribbon, no text Reverse: Bird of Paradise (peacock?) and man kneeling in temple (movie theater?) surrounded by eight-pointed rounded star, no text
Here's a Queen Victoria Token from Canada 1897, old Token that's been cleaned beyond words but my guess is it's really rare, hope so, got it yesterday!
Well, i finally bought something that I really have no idea why I bought it . . . other than it being a quintessential "exonumia" piece, and I had to have it. It's not in my hands yet, but I do have the sellers photos. Yeah, it's a Daniel Carr piece . . . . Only Dan Carr aficionados will "get it" I fear . . . . Z
City of Amsterdam 700th Anniversary commemorative token. During the issuing year (1975) they were supposedly accepted in shops at the rate of 1 Dutch Guilder per coin. I don't know how much they cost at that time. They minted over a million of them and many of them must have been saved, because even over 40 years later it was only 3 Euros. Obverse features the coat of arms of the City of Amsterdam, with its famous three crosses.
A couple more that caught my eye . . . . . I'm chronic . . . . . . . Z Santa Monica Breakwater So-Called Dollars HK-683 and Blue Anodized HK-687
Okay, here's a really scarce political Medal featuring William Howard Taft vs William Jennings Bryan, Taft won in 1908. Both are talking smack on the Medal! Just sharing!
Here is a gilded copper piece with a bit of the gilding still present. I have see the reverse on the medals made for the 1915 Pan Pac exposition. It seems this was presented to a beer brewer, or was given away as advertising maybe.
That one is worth some research, I remember some talks here on CT, I think that refer to a southern fair at or around the same time, Neat medal. Here is a reference to the different medals given in San Fran. https://panamapacificinternationale...n/awards-trophies-ribbons-certificates-medals
I think it might be for the San Diego exposition, which seems to be the lesser known of the 2 fairs going on about the same time.
I love the reverses on that multi-strike. Z 2.0 oz. - 50mm 1.0 oz. - 39mm 1/2 oz. - 30mm 1/4 oz. - 20mm 1/10 oz. - 16mm
