The 2nd Lincoln cent will be out on May 14th. The 1st one isn't out yet. Well it's out on ebay and in Kentucky. Really dumb.:rolling:
Where did you come up with May 4th for the release of the second cent? The Mint has no news of this on their site anywhere I can find. Guy~
It's on the first page of the on line edition of Apr 6th Coin World. I had the wrong date. It's released date is May 14th. It will be released at the Lincoln Amphitheater in Lincoln State Park, Lincoln City, IN.
The Mint has it listed under product schedule, but they only have it listed to come out in the Spring. No date!
You bet they will camping out for that....those cents will make some folks rich. With the first cent still in the vault, you know the second will be even harder to find over the counter. Let the games begin !!!!!!!! Line up early, bring the family and go through the line again and again until they run out. Let's see ..mapquest ...Lincon City is 11 hours and 685 miles .from me......hmm...maybe I should pack a lunch.
Yeah, I made a similar calculation . . . if I spend hundreds on gas, wear and tear on the car, etc., . . . I can pick up 10 rolls and . . . . cheaper to order from the mint. Bummer. *But* . . . does anyone know where the ceremony will be for the fourth cent? (To be held Nov 12). Might it be in DC? (I work in DC!) . . .
But you get put Lincoln stamps on the rolls and get postal cancelations from the local post office and charge a couple hundred a roll. Theres your gas money ...
I got my first 2009P T1 in change today! I wish I knew where it came from, I didn't even noticed until I got home that I had one!
1. Where (i.e., city) was this? 2. What T1? (i.e., the difference between that and T2 -- presuming T is "type") 3. What shape was it in?
My understanding at this time is the first Lincoln cents for 2009 are GONE. The mint has sold out of the rolls they were selling. Information I have received states the 2009 P Lincoln cent "Birthplace" will be the lowest minted Lincoln cent since the 1955S cent. If your bank has not gotten them they WILL NOT now. The second coin in he series is now under production. I do believe the armored car services are getting much much more money for those cents from the private sector than they will ever get from delivering to banks. If you find a coin dealer with fair prices I would suggest you buy them now. (I finally found an out of state dealer). If you can't then you will have to deal with Ebayers. For the most part there are NO 2009 Lincoln cents floating around the banking system in Indiana and most Indiana dealers have not got them nor will they get them unless they are willing to pay huge secondary market premiums. In my lifetime I never thought I would see the day I couldn't get new Lincoln cents nor did I figure I couldn't afford them if I did find them!
From a coin dealer in Nebraska and my coin dealer here in Indiana. The Indiana dealer CAN'T get the cents at this time and it does not look good for him. I might add part of the problem with distribution was the fact the U.S. Mint moved their distribution center from Tenn. to Indiana recently. Apparently that put Indiana in a bad spot? Don't want to play favoritism? None the less, I am just passing on info I have received which I have no reason to doubt at this time. Sometimes I am right and sometimes I am wrong but either way if the info helps anyone, including me, I am glad I got it. Oh, I did finally buy from an out of state dealer after seeing the dramatics on Ebay. Don't like paying a premium for modern circulating coins but it does appear normal channels are not going to happen with these coins. When the first statehood quarters were released most of the armored car companies found out very quickly the private sector was much more willing to pay premiums for those quarters as the banks were not about to do such a thing. I believe it is happening all over again and, if I owned an armored car company, I would probably seek out those extra $$$ for my coins. After all most banks don't care about dates or mintmarks when they order change. They just want the coinage needed to operate on a daily basis. Free enterprise and capitalism at its finest!!!
Yep, from mintage information almost a month old it looks like the 2009 P log cabin is going to be as tough as the 1968 S cent, but probably more available. and only five times as common as the 55-S which is 75 cents retail in unc after 54 years. (Does that mean the 09 P TI will be 15 cents in 2059? (1/5th of what the 55-S was after 50 years) Grab them up while you can.
Well after reading the two above posts, I'm glad that I have 4 rolls coming from the mint...They were backordered, but I think they are shipping them in early April, I hope.
This whole 09 cent thing is a crock of balogna. I refused to pay through the nose for the 2 roll set from the mint. Maybe I don't even want them now. How long ago was the 2009 cent series hyped up? Everyone said that the Lincoln cents were hot because when collectors get the 2009s they will want to complete a set starting with 1909. So for about 2 years now the Lincolns were hot. Now these "collectors" are not getting the new cents and I just read today that Lincolns in general are cooling off. The market isn't as hot as we thought. The general public isn't finding them widespread in change. So where is the incentive to complete a set?
Very carefully.
