Why do American Collectors Refer to non-U.S numismatics as the "Darkside"?

    Ruben,

Obviously, you have never been to Milwaukee. I went once on business thinking it was going to be the most boring trip in my life. The coeds from the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee changed my mind. They were literally everywhere.

    2) When flying back from Europe to the States what is the fastest way to find the gate going non-stop to New York

    a) Ask in English one of the Militia looking for bombs in the airport

    b) Ask in French one of the Militia looking for bombs in the airport

    c) Call before getting to the airport and hope they don't change the gate

    d) Run to the airport at the last moment, bypass the clerks, and just look for the loudest, most audacious and worst dressed group of people in the airport...that is your gate.

ummm - I refuse to slander an entire midwestern region of the country and all their mothers and sisters.

But trust me, any that are worthy have moved much closer to Central Park rather than Lincoln Park.

I almost drove my car into lake Michigan one night because I didn't see, hear or smell the lake even with the windows open. I'll tell you that aint happening with the Atlantic Ocean.

I have been a lifelong collector of U.S. coins and U.S. paper money. Why? - because I'm an American and that's what I really started with as have so many others.

I never referred to World coin collectors as the "darkside" nor do I refer to these coins as "foreign". After all if you live outside the U.S. a U.S. coin is a "world" or "foreign" coin.

I just take it as a gentle joke and see no reason why it should be taken any other way. Bottom line is we are all collectors and have different tastes. I buy the occasional World coin or note because I like it. No other reason.

I see more now than I used to and if a coin "strikes" me and the price is right I buy it. Very simple.

I've seen the same term used by stamp collectors and by us paper money collectors on occasion. Ooooh you're a coin collector and bought some paper. Welcome to the darkside! LOL

If anyone finds that offensive they need to chill. Stepping out of your normal boundries seems to be darkside. I do it more frequently as time goes on.
Take it as it is. A bit of good humored chiding and a welcome at the same time.

FWIW - I doubt anyone was offended unless I completely misunderstood the question. I think that the colloquialism was unknown.

Yep, when you can smell the rotting medical wastes etc, you know your on the shore.

But being a well travelled bloke, I can opin that there are parts of the world where the feminine attractions are more, and parts of the world where they are challenged- to be very politically correct. And some places like France, where they look good, but smell like the Jersey shore:p
