Do you think this will be a HOT issue? It will be interesting to see how well it does. If it does well, I hope the mint pays some attention.

I'm undecided about buying a roll. I never buy quarter rolls, but I grew up in Kansas so I might get one for sentimental reasons.

Crystalk tells me that these quarters are the ones that will have a likeness of him standing on the horizon directly behind the Buffalo. The event tool place early this year while on a Buffalo hunt. I can hardly wait to see if he's right!

Ah, Old Dan, great news from the world of North Dakota!!! Two bisons grazing on their new quarter! NORTH DAKOTA now joins my list of greatness!!! And I have a reason to look forward to next year! Thank you NORTH DAKOTA!!!

Oh no...not another coin with a Buff on it...this is one reason I like "older" coins better...they don't change the design all the time and they also have neat designs not the same thing for "5" coins...I know that the Barber coin has 3 alike but they are NOT just alike...look at the back of the dime...it makes it interesting.

Speedy... the other day I noticed one of your posts related to Jefferson Halfs, and now you say this about "older" coins. Could you define what exactly you are talking about when you say "older coins"? I'm a little confused. Thank you.

    Hey OldDan

The other day I was typing to fast and missed the Jefferson Half!!!

What I mean is that I'm getting rid of most of my newer (1965-date) coins to put them in coins that interest me more.

I know I'm a little weird to some but these "new" coins don't grab me like the other ones do...

Take it like this....I would much rather have a Proof IHC than 1 PF70DCAMEO State Quarter...

I know that there might be a great price jump but how many Proof IHC were minted...how many State Quarters were minted....when there are billions (or millions) or coins I don't find the joy in collecting them...I like to hunt for a coin--its like hutting deer or turkey...sometimes you just have to fine the "right" one.

    Hope this helps!

Speedy the North Dakota design is a better design and it has TWO buffalo's on it! Now if we can just convince them to do a buffalo on the new bullion coin we will have one in gold!!! Actually that is a great idea as there is absolutely no politics involved with a buffalo and they want world wide acceptance of this new coin and well as demand from U.S. collectors and investors. Nothing would better serve that purpose than a Golden Buffalo !!!

I have to wonder if the Kansas quarter will get hoarded like the 2005 Buffalo nickel is. I have yet to see a single 2005 Buffalo nickel in circulation.

Oh boy...does this mean they will be "worth" twice as much!!!?

I think the Native American population might just disagree with that assumption.

I understand your point but still want to see the American buffalo fall in to its place with the Candian Maple leaf, Chinese Panda, Australian Kangaroo and the S. African Kruggerand. Can't think of anything else more deserving!

Sure does, I had forgotten that 1965 is a long time ago to some of you coin collectors, and that you are now collecting coins from the ancient times of the teens and the 20's. Don't blame you any, as I like thse best anyway.

while I'm thinking on this subject and the subject of Buffalo's were brought up.
I'm sure Russel Means of AIM would sure appreciate a gold commemorative with a buffalo, so the proceeds could be used for the American Indian Movement. NO politics here!

I don't think of them as "ancient" just nice old coins...I also like them better because they are silver (alright...the cents are not silver!!) but nowdays the coins are "worthless"...but the Goverment puts a value on them so everybody does.

This isn't quite true. Copper and nickel are internationally traded comodities and both have value. Now they aren't worth what the face value of the coin is, but circulating coinage never has been (except for short periods immediatly followed by weight changes in the coins). Do you remember reading the PCGS article a while back about the micro o Morgan dollars that turned out to be contemporary counterfeits? IIRC, it said that many of them had a composition of 94% or more silver because when the coins were made silver was much less valuable than the face value of the coins being faked. This is the way it has always been, circulating coins are supposed to be "worthless" except for their printed face value.

When its all said and done, though, collect what you like! I enjoy the fact that silver is the most reflective of all metals and so that is what I collect. :) I think thay are pretty!

But when you look at it there isn't much copper in the coins nowday...nor much nickel...only a bit.

The_Cave_Troll, I DO like my silver as well (world wide now) but very fond of the buffalo and think the new gold bullion would end a great run of buffalo's and give it a prominent spot in American history that it well deserves. Like it or not an Eagle hasn't fed any one that I know of, it hasn't clothed anyone, to my humble knowledge and has never been used as a weapon of war. The buffalo is history and played its part in many ways and if I had to put something on a coin for world sales that would be my pick. Don't get me wrong as there are a lot of other animals out there that are fiercly loved by many for a variety of reasons but none with such a "National" history.

    Heh.
There will be some here in my town.
The wife and I bought a few rolls, took out a couple nice ones for the album and have been spending the rest everytime we owe some change for a purchase.

    Just doing our share :)
