I found this on Ebay, and decided that regardless of the toning it would be an upgrade from the worn thing that is in my Dansco album. I was wondering what you guys thought, toning aside I was thinking MS63+ ?

If you feel that it fits the needs of your collection then go for it. I'm not a fan of toned coins but if you like it thats all that matters. Nice detail though.

I have four other 1909 VDB's but I doubt any of them would rate above G4, so I think this is an upgrade. After some personal experimentation, I'm finding that AT coins are probably running rampant.

I would not be surprised if that was ATd, but regardless, it is at least a 64, maybe better.

That coin's a beast, and I don't think it's AT. Of course, it would help to have it in hand, but it has a nice look to it. I'll admit that it's strange for a coin to tone on the obverse, but not the reverse...(usually they tone on the reverse, but on the obverse, because of album toning.) Also, it's not an end-of-roll coin, because of the date.

Anyway, I don't see anything that makes me think AT.

    Is it in plastic?

i thought that it was AT probably because ive never seen any toning like that. but then again, im still pretty new to the hobby. That is kinda wierd that it toned on the obv. but not the rev.

These are normally well struck, I see rubs to the head, cheek and jaw and the reverse wheatlines, AU-53....that's not AT IMO, beautiful coin!

Hmm, put me into the AT group from the photo. The part that bothers me is the circular clear area on the lapel. Usually NT doesn't have smooth circles. As with all toning, it is only a guessing game most of the time. But At can be very beautiful also as shown here.

Too splotchy, and Cobalt blue is not a color you see on these. Cobalt blue is indication of treatment with MS-70 coin cleaner.

The old tissue stored proof Indians and Matte Lincoln will develop the blue, but not in a pattern like this.

My opinion? AT all the way.

I am not a toning expert, but I would guess natural. As for the grade, That is an easy 64 IF there is no wear on it. However, there is so much glare on the critical point on the obverse, it may well be AU. I really cannot tell for sure.

Hey Nice coin. It will certainly look nice filling the hole, Although I'll say it's an AU and AT.
But don't get me wrong! BEAutiful coin man.

    I don't think it's a mint state coin but,

I don't think it's a mint state coin but it is very hard to tell without having the coin in hand - it just looks a little washed out in the centers.

I've never experimented with MS70, do you think it was a Q-tip application on just one side? Everytime I've suspected AT is was on both sides, apparently I need to change my thinking.

I think the magnification and lighting are making the colors more neon then they appear in hand, in hand the colors are more muted and it looks more RB than toned, you need to hold it up to some light to see the toning. And while there is some slight wear on the beard and cheek, there doesn't seem to be much, if any, wear on the tips of the wheat stalks.

I don't have a graded MS63 cent, and typically what I would do is compare them side by side, but I'll revise my expectations to somewhere around AU58 to MS60. I'm going to try a new photo setup tonight and will post some updated photos in a bit, even if they are bad :)

Thanks for everyones opinions, thats how I learn!
