1866 5C Rays MS66 PCGS. CAC. A brilliant and lustrous Gem with a bold strike and impressive preservation. The upper and lower obverse rims display multiple die cracks, as struck, while the reverse has wispy die cracks throughout the peripheral legends. Slender die striations (as made) are seen beneath the left vertical shield lines and bisect the reverse. This first-year issue was plagued by striking problems, leading to the removal of the rays between the stars, on the reverse. Some striking irregularity in this region is seen on the current example, but, along with the previously mentioned "as struck" features, this does not affect the coin's technical grade. Therefore, we rely on luster (excellent), surface preservation (nearly flawless), and overall eye appeal (splendid), to determine the premium quality status of this conditionally scarce example. Population: 27 in 66, 0 finer (2/09):

1870 5C PR66 Cameo PCGS. CAC. Ex: Eliasberg. Graded PR67 in its Eliasberg auction appearance, and the piece appears essentially as made even when after prolonged study beneath a loupe. Precisely struck and nearly untoned. Population: 14 in 66 Cameo, 0 finer (2/09).
Ex: Edouard Frossard, 3/1894; J.M. Clapp; Clapp estate, 1942; Louis E. Eliasberg Collection (Bowers and Merena, 5/1996), lot 757.:

1911 5C PR67 Cameo PCGS.</I> With 1,733 specimens struck, the 1911 is among the lower-mintage proof Liberty nickel issues, and it rarely comes so fine as this PR67 Cameo example. Excellent field-to-device contrast persists through rich patina, zones of aquamarine and peach. Carefully preserved and gorgeous. Population: 7 in 67 Cameo, 0 finer (2/09):

Yea I love the crack on it too. Chris over at Heritage said the coin was nothing spectacular, but it wasn't junk either... but I found the die crack interesting so I picked it up!

    Thanks for the comments :)

A cameo proof shield nickel is on my "must have list" but for now I will have to make do with images! Wonderful coins there, the 1911 Liberty is certainly an uber-choice piece. Enjoy them!
