1952 Wheat Penny

    Looking for information on about a 1952 wheat penny. Possible double strike over the 19, the 52 is very legible.

    These cents are struck like machine gun fire, it's a pretty rapid process. As such, a lot of "rocking and rolling"...which can result in incomplete strikes, as well as secondary images...is quite common. That's called "machine [gun?] doubling." If you're really concerned about an opinion on this particular coin, we need to see pictures...that's the only way that happens.

    I agree with eddiespin they minted way too many 1952! and never changed the dies!

    They did change the dies when they absolutely had to. The dies were overused , for sure during the 1950s but they were changed.

    Your coin most likely was struck by a very worn die and that is a common occurrence.
