i need to know how careful the mint is when making the ms eagles that they put in the rolls to sell people. i got a roll of 2009 frist strikes from a guy on ebay who said he never opened the roll, so i payed him $406.00 for the roll. i looked at each coin under 10x power with good light and 80% of the coins had cuts in them from other coins i guess and the other had black specks on them. i also seen acouple of thread like fibers on acouple of coins. i have not gave the guy feedback yet but when i got the coins he said he dont cherry pick threw the coins, but the two fibers i seen makes me think they were out of the tube. i emailed him and told him the same thing but havnt herd back from him. he has a big store on ebay and has 100% feedback.

I get my ASE rolls from a guy up in New Hampshire and the coins I receive from him don't exhibit any of the characteristics you state. I suspect your roll has been picked through.

i dont have the money all the time to be able to affort a roll of eagles, but i would like to have a name and a phone number where i could buy them from who dont cherry pick. i wish i had the money to get them from the mint when they are taking orders but sometimes you just cant get them from there. and when you open up your tube to inspeck them maybe see one or two that you think you might have a chance of being a ms70. but if the ones i see cant get passed me theres no way NGC is going to grade it good.

Thank you for reminding me again why I don't use Ebay. The good news is that ASEs are bullion coins and don't carry much of a premium regardless of condition.

the man just emailed me and told me to send them back and he will give me a new roll. he said sometimes the dies get drity and now and then you will get a tube like that. hopefully the tube i get looks good to my eye.

I would bet that he didn't look at the coins. You shouldn't expect to get all MS68-70's coins as the ASE are minted by the millions. The guy is 100% correct that the dies get dirty and you will get coins with stuff like fiber on them. The truth is that in some cases coins with "struck through" fiber and other such stuff brings more $$ when sold.

As for the nicks---that is just normal bag marks, and counter marks. You are going to get that with every roll. These coins aren't placed in the rolls with gloved hands

I'm really shocked that the guy is going to let you return them. I know that I sure wouldn't.
For all he knows you could have put your fingers all over the coins, and nicked them up more. With 09 ASE being as hard to get as they are, I would have counted my blessings that I got some.

Ditto speed and hats off to the seller for allowing the return. I saw part of a roll today down at the coin store. The 4 out of the roll in front I could clearly see bag marks on. Still nice looking coins but buying a roll I would not expect 69's and 70's - just not that easy.

frist struck eagles arent hard to get, go on ebay and there is rolls every where. that say they have not been picked threw. i told the man that i would keep them and just resale them even at a cheaper price if i had to because i dont want them. but my feedback wont be a good one. even if i got a roll of eagles from the mint and every one of them had bad marks on them i would send them back no matter how hard they are to get.

First struck eagles are a bunch of hog wash. That is all marketing, and alot of people are falling for it.

They aren't first strikes, they are the first that have been put into rolls and boxed up. They number the boxes as they fill them but that doesn't mean they were the first struck.

Getting ASE's out of a roll often does more damage than the coin making process. Most of the surfaces get marked up by how you take them out of the roll. You should cut them out of the roll by making a cut down the center of each side and pulling the plastic apart. It takes a bit to master but what ever you do NEVER shake the coins out of the roll. Instantly ruining any chance of a 69+ and once they are out NEVER put them back in. Once they are out, put then in flips or air tights. If you try to put them back into the roll every time they touch another coin, they get marks and loose a grade.
