Calm down already, I've made mistakes too and I admit it. It's just a true story that proves what you said in your posting is true. OK already, I'll say it plainly, "I AGREE WITH YOU WORD FOR WORD". Try to have a nice day and let's consider this issue closed.
Thank's jody526, Your info is helpful. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong and appreciate your reply and again I consider it very helpful and kind.
Okay CyberPunk, We are all just trying to learn something. There is no hard feelings. I have never before heard of this type of experiment. I wanted to know if it actually worked. Would be cool in a way if it did. My flake is still doing okay. If we can't have fun in this forum, then we would all be doing something else. I mean we all like to learn and share our thoughts and knowledge, but we are also here to make friends and have great conversations. You have sparked a great little thread, be proud of the fact that you have motivated us to action. Good Job Sir!
If you really want to dissolve gold then two things that will work... 1) Aqua Regia which correct me if i am wrong is a mixture of concentrated sulphuric acid and nitric acid. (unless i've just listed the wrong acids there) 2)Mercury, i've tried mercury and copper before and it kind of plates itself on the copper, but it was only a minute amount. But a jarful of the stuff will definately dissolve any metal other than iron and platinum of which the latter two it cannot form an amalgam with. (Basically it's what they do with fillings but it's, mercury and silver)
I am glad this post came up. I get all kinds of questions from clients about what will hurt their coins and what won't. So for me, this is very educational.
Thanks I appreciate that. I'm OK and in a halfway decent mood. I think your right on the money about the fun and learning part. As far as me doing a "Good Job" I'm not too sure. I seemed to sparked some heated reactions and I feel kind of bad about that. My was intended to show a little humor, not disrespect. In my business I'm very light hearted and tell a few stories or jokes to help people relax, not unlike my postings. I guess in writing it just didn't come off that way.
I don't think anyone was thinking that you were being disrespectful. Just continue to participate and enjoy.
Thanks I will. As far as CyberPunk goes, its true, I really was a Punk Rocker in the later 70's and early 80's I've played at CBGB's in NYNY and other places where REAL PUNK'S only played origional music. I love the Ramones, MC5, Velvet Underground/w Niko (and the new bands) but NEVER did their music on stage. We always played our own stuff just like them. we always guaged ourselves by how many cigerette buts were flicked at us. If the count was high we considered it GOOD NIGHT!. I'm also a computer programer since 1994, a retired professional dancer (Ballet), but I'll ALWAYS be A PUNK!!! It's may seem funny, but I wasn't the only one. I guess we were creative, inovative and not afraid of an extreem challange. That's why I now do coin grading its just plain not easy! I'll leave you with this: a little quote from the The Oral History of Punk Rock. A guy in a bar, kind of a cowboy type (at that time the whole world hated Americans, but still loved Texians), saw a Punk and said, "you think your a tuff guy, well let's see if you can out do this." He took his ciggrette and put it out in the palm of his hand. Smilling the whole time he said, WELL? match that PUNK!!. The Punk downed half of his bottle of bud, smashed it accross his head and then raked it down his face. The guy just shook his head and muttered as he walked out. WE WERE PUNKS and we were DIFFERENT to the extreem! Please understand after living like that, not much bothers us, but we ironicly learned to care very much about other peoples feelings.
Hey there, since you have posted this week, be sure to add your name to the raffle. It is under the contest section. That goes for all other members that are posting. Be sure to enter each week. Don't you just love the plug I put in for other forums.
CyberPunk - I too took your posts in a good way - I was not upset or heated in any way. If you thought otherwise - sorry about that. As for the bleach - it had no effect on the coin. And I wasn't worried or I never would have done it - I may be crazy - but I'm not stupid As for comments on the grading companies - I made them more for the benefit of others who have less experience in these matters. It was in no way a reflection on your posts. Too many new collectors have the idea that the grading companies are infalible and if they say so - it must be so. But this is not the case as you obviously know. But keep in mind please - there are others who do not. My entire goal here is to try and help those who do not have the experience yet. So sometimes when I post a reply I add more to it than I would if I were just trying to answer the OP's question or make a comment. And I am also trying to learn what I can as well. And sometimes comments stimulate additional conversation and we all learn some more
I enjoyed reading CyberPunk's post about his days in a Punk Rock band. I was never into the scene, but I did like the music. Interestingly (or not), I was a professional musician for many years. Some of my fondest memories are of playing in night clubs and bars, and feeding off the energy of a live audience.
It's very interesting where we all came from. In the music industry (as you know) it's like being in the eye of the hurricane. All these things went around us, but most of us weren’t like the crowd that came to see us. We were musicians not berserkers. I was in the punk scene when the Ramones, Blondie, Sex Pistols (yuck!!!), Lou Reed (by the way Lou Reed’s is talented, but a real a jerk), and all were hot. And I still and always will love Frank Zappa!!! Frank ALWAYS spoke to his audience starting with, “Now ladies and gentlemen….” He never said, “Hey dudes”, or “Dig this freaks”. Like wise he did not do drugs or ANY of the disgusting things so many people said he did! Now Sid Vicious was a real exception. He was a total junkie, but he was like a kid who just didn’t have a life and he didn’t kill Nancy! Now the real point, it shouldn’t be any surprise to anyone that a Punk Rocker/Classical Dancer/Computer Programmer/Divinity Grad student (that’s another story) could be a coin collector, dealer or grader. It’s art! That is our one common thread! All of us have this in common, however different we may be, we love art! In this we, at least the ethical ones, are all the same! Bless us all and may we stay sincere! kes
Well, sometimes I take myself too seriously. I've been told I’m a classic temperamental artist , but, of course that can’t possibility be true.
