    Calling all die variety specialists!!!!!!!!!!!!

What could we do here at Coin Talk. (or for that matter anywhere) to help new people more easily learn to identify true doublED dies?? I was going to say all die varieties but lets keep it as simple as possible.

It seems to me to be a rather large and apparently confusing, often talked about problem and I keep thinking there must be something that could be done to help folks.

We have written about it, posted educational threads, asked people to search, and still each and every day we have it come up - and on eBay well, there's is no hope for eBay - trust me I been trying for years!

I have tried many different ways of trying to explain it, phrase it, compare it to things and I just keep feeling like, "it should not be THAT complicated", but it continues to be so no matter what we do.

Now I am the first to know and admit it is by it's very nature a fairly complicated topic but the thought keeps haunting me "there must be a better way"? Maybe there's not, you guys tell me so if you believe that.

I know what it took for me to learn it and describing that won't help much I've already done that.

I just keep thinking there must be a better way - nothing needs to remain that complicated and if there is something that could be done I'd like to try it.

This is now an open topic - we can only further knowledge by passing it on to others.

The best way for me to learn is through good photos. So it might be helpful to post a series of photos of true double-dies, then a series of photos of coins that are not but could be mistaken for double-dies.

Maybe a guide based on Cherrypicker's concept - instead name it EASY PICKENS. A resource of varieties that are so obvious that it doesn't take much experience to recognize them. By looking for these newcomers would gain experience, learn and hone their variety searching skills.

That's a step in the right direction, very good thought!

Now who else can put on their thinking cap.

That's a great thought but remember I am photo challenged

That's a great thought but remember I am photo challenged. It just never was on my "want to do list" - but plenty of people on here are and if you give credit and for learning purpases not selling I think it's okay.
    Keep thinking,

The easiest way for me to learn was to follow The Rule. You know the one: Buy the book before the coin. If a person knows their education is deficient they should seek to remedy that. Sure books aren't free, but they tend to have a lot more information in one place than would be found in a free resource. And that information is instantly-available. For doubled dies, get Cherrypicker's. There's an appendix that covers them in excruciating detail.
