I bought 50 of the Standing Liberty quarters from a guy this week at melt value and found this. Worth holding onto? If so, what would you grade it? Sorry, my scanner stinks... working on the whole picture taking portion of collecting.

  3. This looks like it may have been acid treated or corroded...

Though, you did buy it at melt. So, I guess you did alright.

Very nice pickup for melt... less than 400K minted, so a tough coin to find in any grade. Someone will be along who knows how to grade these better than I do, but even low grade is worth alot more than melt value.

The scan really doesn't do the coin justice, it looks much better in hand.

  6. Regardless, there is a lot of evident wear on that coin. The date and MM are readable though, so it's definitely worth a lot more than melt... which happens to be about $ 2.50 today.

    Nice find Markwill!

Definitely a keeper. Dealer bid on that coin in G4 is $34. I wouldn't quite call that a G4 but it's close and even if it is a bit corroded well worth what you paid.

I've seen worse examples on ebay touted as VG on many occasions. ;)

Looking over the ANA guild it looks like a G-4 because the obverse motto is legible and the rim is complete.

I don't identify it as any specific variety or a tear drop.

Actually, I was pretty impressed with your scanner. Your scan is better than a lot of the coin photos I've seen.

It grades between an AG-3 & G-4 and as other posts have noted, mintage was low for this date (396,000). G-4 is right around $35. Melt value is around $2.50-2.75.

It's a nice find for the price you paid.

That coin is definately worth keeping. It has a low mintage and picking it up for melt is great deal. Congrats!

Same haha. I give the coin a G-4. Very nice find. Lowest mintage of SLQ's besides of course the 1916.
