What is the average grade of a coin(Kennedy) outta a US mint roll? They still sell 2001 rolls sets and say the average was MS 63, then u would make money cause MS-63 P kennedies are worth $10. Then I dont think u would be able to sell it cause if u look at ebay, none of them are selling for over th price the mint sells them for

There is a lot of variation in mint quality from year to year and from mint to
mint. There is also variation in the range of quality and how the coins lay out
within these ranges. As a general rule most prices for moderns mint state coins
is two teir. There is one price which is a wholesale price and applies to any coin
which is a solid MS-60 or better. Solid MS-60 means no big problems. It must
remembered that some dates are hardly available from rolls and bags without big
problems. This especially applies to the earlier issues. Even in mint sets there
are coins like the '76 t I which is encountered with severe problems nearly 50%
of the time. This wholesale price defines the floor at which these coins will trade
at and can be found under BU Rolls in the greysheet. You can usually sell to deal-
ers at about 150% of greysheet if you're patient. Otherwise it's easy to get 90%.

Premiums above this are more difficult but do not require slabbing, just quality.
If quality is easy for you to find then it will be easy for others also so there will
be no premium. In the highest grades coins will generally need to be slabbed
to get the best prices but there are buyers seeking these coins any way they
    can find them.

Ebay is, no doubt, just reflecting this market which is not collector friendly. It's
biggest weakness is the simple fact that demand is small except at the wholesale
level and at this level all that is required is nice attractive coins.

Please let me know who is buying 2001P Kennedy's in MS63 for $10 because I WILL SELL at that level! You must be looking at the redbook prices or something because that price seems very out of line.

Aren't you forgetting that slabs aren't free, and that collectors of U.S. coins generally won't buy raw coins at top prices?

Besides, with the quality control problems the Mint is having, what makes you think rolls would average MS63

I think there are many MS-63 (and even higher) Kennedy's in many Mint rolls. But like Roy said most collectors won't pay 63 prices unless they are slabbed and after slabbing fees you would be lucky to break even currently. Now the future for mid-high grade Kennedy's is looking very good so definately stash any that you feel are "contenders" and just watch the trends.

MS 63 is a good barometer for Mint rolls. I recently received a full box of Kennedys, all 1999-P BU bank wrapped rolls, and they average MS63. This being a scarcer date, still does not command $10 per coin. The 2001 BU coins fetch about $2.00 on ebay. If you are looking to buy from the mint and turn a quick profit....be wary...be very wary.

I think if you go back to what I told you the other day you will see I said...(I'm going to add somethings so it won't be "word for word")

The Red Book is a GUIDE...do NOT trust the values in the book....you have to look in many places to see what is the real value...GreySheet...CoinValue...Online Auctions that are over...that will give a better price.

    My 2005 Red Book only lists 2001P Kennedys in MS65 @ $1.00.
That is a high end retail price, for a single coin from a retail dealer.

My bad..... I accidently picked up 2002 redbook
The 2005 redbook indeed says 2001P is $10 in MS63.

Most recent auction on ebay was for a Mint-Wrapped roll for $15.50 in May.

The other half dollars of this era are listed for a couple dollars each.

The Redbook has only started trying to list realistic prices on moderns
this year. These prices are all over. While some may be high end retail
or higher there are probably more that are laughably low.

According to Coins Magazine, it list the 2001 P&D halves for $6.00 each in MS-65.
