I received this coin several years ago with a small regional grouping. I identified all the rest as being from the region of Afghanistan and modern day Pakistan. This coin and a few others look European and have all been clipped with the same number of edges. They all have the crown motif with spoke and balls, but these seem to have been stamped on the coin as all the other examples are crude and differ. If my memory is correct the group seams to have been from the 16th to 18th century, this coin could be from that period but I cannot find it anywhere. I would like to know were this coin originally came from, and how it ended up in Afganistan.
I have resized my image, the coin has what looks like the date 1735 between dots and the Latin letters F O or maybe F C encircled in dots.
I couldn't find anything remotely similar for Afghanistan in the 18th Century Krause 3rd Ed.,but there are a lot of octaganal hammered dump coinage shown in that volume for India, mostly in the Independent Kingdoms, and a few in the Portugese colonies. I didn't see anything with a similar design, however. It certainly has a European "look and feel" about it.
I Have Much Smaller Coin From Mesembria, Thrakia , Greece , With The Same Wheel Inside. But The Other Side Has A Hemet On It, No Letters.
This coin could be from the 15th century, what looks like a seven might be the bottom half of a four? Anyone out there have catalogs of the 15th century? This mystery coin has been viewed 100's of time by people all around the world, no luck yet.....
