silver proof set all silver coins toned. but no coin toned alike. and no dark or black color too. simple reddish. and lastly, it were only one side. example, all reverse in one set or all obverse on the other one.
chemical reaction?. why should the mint not changing the present plastic case and cardboard to a more safer and reliable case or plastic?. so that the coins will be brilliant forever.
Those toned coins might be worth more toned so don't jump the gun. Look on ebay and see if any toned are selling before you do anything drastic.
Elaine the only way to stop toning 100% is to put them in a vacuum devoid of air which nobody has done so far. Anyway check the prices before being worried, some people pay more for toned coins that are beautiful.
It definitely does tone. Its not completely inert and it still have voltage potential on the surface, so Gold does tone...but generally not much. Ruben
you are out of your mind whatever happened to i hate toned coins? i am telling that its a dark side from which there is no return alas another one lost
It's not all silver, but I opened a box of coins I had not seen in forever, and found this attached 1969-s Washington quarter. I know for fact that it has not been treated or anything, and I wish I had a better camera, because it is blue on the outside rim area, and gold looking on the inner part. I have 2 complete Washington collection books in safety deposit box that I have not seen in years, becasue I'm holding 5 years worth to put in them. Does anyone know if there is a reason or something about a 1969-s composition that caused this? I've seen this on a few copper Lincolns, but not on quarters. Did I just answer my question...the copper?? I wish I had a better camera so you could see the true blue and gold colors better. I'm not a big fan of tones, but it is different and nice looking.
the last one of your picture. some of my 5 pc silver quarters set came out the same toned with that of yours. i hate it. but what can i do.
I don't mind a little natural coin tone on the coins in my albums, but they stay pretty nice in the Intercept albums. If they get just a little toning then it just gives them a little character. My new coins I never ever even open. I keep them out of sunlight, in a cool dry place, like my safety deposit box with a bag of dessicant, and they stay like new. It's when I open them up and the air gets to them is when it usually happens. Elaine, just pretend they are like George Clooney, and that little bit of grey makes them distinguished.
thanks SirCharlie. the problem is that all of my collections were 99.9% in B.U. condition. well. i will try to appreciate those toned coins. i will learn it too.
no never. stay away from toned coins or the dark side will consume 100% white or not at all from the modern us mint i say
may i ask?. if the toned is surfaced. i found that toned coin. and put it back where it was. can that toned coin tone more or less?.
