About a year ago, I got a "golden" 1998 Lincoln cent... I thought it was painted or "altered". But in case it was not, I put it "aside". I talked to a guy I used to work with and he told me he had one too.. So that peaked my interest more - realizing it may not be painted. I got a 2004 "golden" cent recently also that peaked my suspensions more. So - :rolling: As soon as I can I will post pictures... Any thoughts?
The chemistry experiment to make silver and gold "pennys" is now in several middle and high school chemistry manuals. We will see many many more as the books become more common. ( also very easy for teachers and students to do ). So probably done that way. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1262456/make_a_gold_penny/ Jim
yep. Chemistry class. My class did it a month ago. We did 4 pennies each. And there are 3 periods for that class, so roughly 360 pennies were turned gold for my school this semester. I threw mine in circulation because they turned all wierd.
There are also "brass cents" left in plating wash to long There are also "brass cents" left in plating wash to long but not on 2004 that I am aware of - some of the brass ones look golden. Most of these were 1985, 1997, 1998 though. - See Ken Poters webaite for more info.
.......sounds like a gold plated lincoln cent. more of a conversation piece than anything else. jmho.
