There is never too many coins if you don't want to collect a half eagle then don't it is a cheaper way to have something nice from each year. This could get young kids hooked. I'm sure that they would rather have two coins than one anyway.

I wonder if it really would be cheaper when you account for the investment that it takes to make the coin. All the machinery, dies, silver planchets are needed. Plus, time and man power to make and inspect them. I wonder how cheap they could be in order to turn a profit for the mint. I would imagine that the % cost over bullion would be greater for a half dollar ASE than it is for a dollar to off set these costs. I think the standard ASE is plenty inexpensive enough for the average collector.

    ASE 35 cents

I remember in 1988 the ASE was 35 cents over bid.

if the one ounce eagle blank is not enough to meet the customers. why not make half ounce so that it can double the quantity.

A good idea. I like the idea of the Mint doing a nice gift coin at about $10 price that you can hand out to people willy-nilly at Christmas.

Of course you will have to get new legislation passed through both houses of Congress to authorize it. Good luck.
