I have two 1879-S Morgans. Guess what one of them turned out to be?
Amazing! If only I looked first!!!

It`s in an NGC MS64 holder.

That is too funny!!! You now have the second known "Beauty Mark" Morgan! However, you have the nicest known 1879-S VAM 48A. Mine is raw, but I think it's closer to MS60-62.

Let them look at the new buffs, if that`s what they like. It`s all good.
You just gotta love these Vams. I have an 1886 with 7 distinct clashes
on the reverse. Dr. Kimpton didn`t seem interested. Maybe I should
    send it to Leroy.

7 clashes?!? Any clashed letters under the tail feathers? I'd like to see some pictures. Sounds like you should send it to Leroy.

No "E" on rev, or "IN" on obverse. Pics don`t show the clashes it. I have
a QX-3 , and it is limited as to the detail, as you can see with my
pic of the 48a. I will try some lighting solutions and see what comes up.

This is the best I can do. Pic barely shows 3 clashes. This view
is between the eagles upper right wing and wreath. This is an
extreme LDS with heavy die polishing and numerous die cracks.
I am willing to bet there are pre polishing die states that may show
some of the "IN" and "E" clashing.
With a 10x loupe I can count 7 clashes on the reverse and 4 or 5
    on the obverse.

That's a keeper for sure. I have a die clash gauge for Morgans that would help with this. They are for sale on eBay. I'm not the seller. You can align one of the visible clashes and then examine any other part of the coin for less obvious clash marks. I used it yesterday where I saw a clash line under Liberty's neck. I aligned the single line and was able to locate a clashed N and clashed S. The two discs are transparent and can be rotated. It's pretty cool.
Have you checked out the VAM update photos on the ashmore site? You might find a match. Leroy will attribute a VAM with polishing lines alone.... so you should try to find a match and/or send it off to him.

Page 119 of the VAM book kind of has a die clash superimosition.
I am a member of SSDC, but Ashmores site hadn`t had any updates
for a while, so I havn`t been there latly and the SSDC official site has been on vacation for a
number of years. Didn`t know they had gauges, but I know where
    to look for what.

    Thanks

All these VAM errors / varieties are cool.

But if the same errors / varieties show up on a Bison then that's not cool.

    or

Am I doing the "reseach" on the Bisons, kinda like these guys did on the morgans.

I have found about 15 varieties myself...that's a lot of research ....... and eye strain.

Alrighty Error, make a book. Go for it. Dont publish it until u have found what u think are all the errors and then publish it.

    Errorcoins.......

I respect your interest in the bisons. Don`t take everything so personally.
Some old time silver dollar collectors look with the same disdain at the
VAM varieties of the Morgan and Peace dollars, as some do at the new
phenomena of looking for interesting die gouges in the modern states
quarters and bison nickels. Relax, don`t go away. I am new here and
    enjoy the back and forth.

Last VAM-E you received via email or the last one listed on the website?
I'm in the SSDC too. I get the VAM-E newsletters each week. Just got one on Sunday. Maybe you need to be added (or re-added) to the distribution list. The die clash tool was mentioned in that issue. I've tried using the photos in the VAM book, but it was always hard for me to visualize what would be on each side of the coin by looking at two different images... especially when the clashing can be rotated. Five minutes ago I bought another Morgan from a site one of the CT members mentioned a while back. It's clashed. I can see the line on the neck and some faint marks under the eagle's tail. I spun the clear discs on this die clash tool and noticed the marks are right where an 'E' should be. I'm hoping. If I'm wrong, I'm out $10 on the coin.

I know they had problems with distribution list at least once. I was on, then off, then got back issues re-sent. You can ask vam-e@varslab.com to add you back on. The last issue also had a short article from Leroy about the counterfeit micro-O Morgans... and the other 1879-S counterfeit. I hadn't heard about that one.

    That's a great idea, hmmm.

    I know I could do it....but it would take a lot of time....that I can't afford....I would rather publish a Wildflower book.

hmmmm... still a very good idea......hmmmmmm

maybe..... I would have to wait a few years (or have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, edition) for all the varieties to show up.......any numismatic writers (with connections) want to Co-author a BOOK with me??????

Looks like the book will be a lot rarer than the errors in it!!!

Sorry errorcoins just couldn't resist. All in good fun not a jab or should I say "crack" at you though. :D

Just so you know... when I offered you a certain amount of money per die clash, I was completely joking. I assumed people knew that, but I made a wrong assumption. I didn't think anyone buys coins that way, but who knows. Oh wait... I made a comment about Japanese coins and a cat collar in another thread. I get it.

    Good luck with your coin.
