I work during the Summer, Winter, and Spring Break, and have found Four war nickels so far. The first was a 1944-S, but the other three I've found have all been 1943-P. Now, I see the mintage for them is a little more than double of what the other's are, but I'm still a bit surprised that out of four, I haven't found any that have a mintage of 100mil or so.
I'm surprised you've found any nickels in circ. I haven't found a war nickel in change in a number of years
Statistically speaking, we're still okay. It's reasonable that you found three 1943-P nickels out of four total. Other than randomness, and perhaps some local variances, I don't think there's much else at play here.
roughly adding the mintages together, there are about 870million War Nickels. Assuming they're all still in circulation (which of course they aren't). Means that my chance of finding a 1943P (271mill) is about 31%. but finding three 1943P's in a row is about 3% (I think). so yeah, I just figured I'd find different dates, lol. When I found the last war nickel I thought to my self "Didn't I already find one of these?"
There is a concept of statistical variation. The odds of flipping heads on a coin three times in a row in a single run is the same as heads head tails, specifically. Ruben
When slot machines use to spit out coins, I was able to put together a complete war nickel set. Took a while but it was a fun endevor.
