These hammered coins came to me the other day, and for the life of me I cannot identify them. Here is what I can tell you though. They are wafer thin and they are all about the size of a dime. They weigh in between .66g and 1.04g with most of them in the high 6's and low 8's. They were incredibly dirty when I got them and I did rinse them off in a bowl of hot water which decrusted them. Based on my very, very limited knowledge I am suspecting that they are quite possibly English, but that is all. If you can tell me anything about them please let me know.

They're all feudal french deniers. Probably Burgundian, of Hugh IV or V.

Thanks, they are indeed deniers of Hugh V (1305-1315), and I was able to dig some more and answer my other question of composition. I guess you learn something every day billon is mostly bronze with some silver in it, tah dah!

No, but during that time there were ecclesiatiscal( church issued) coins made in various countries, even England. Some of the German ecclesiastical issues continued into the early 19th century.

you wouldn't believe it the guy had them in a tube for cents, probably had 120-150 in the tube. He just gave me a pinch as he was getting rid of a bunch of foreign.
