I have recently come across a well circulated 1929 Standing Liberty quarter with a M mark on the face. I know it is not a mint mark, what is it

It was put there after it was minted. It is not part of the minting process.

I am not a coin collector, will that increase or decrease the value of the coin

Decreases the value. Still worth the silver content.

    It is the designer's initial

The "M" to the right of the date is tne initial of the designer's last name. His name was Hermon A. MacNeil. ;)

The big "M" to the right of the date is the designer's initial. Is this the "M" to which you are referring?

    Very best regards,

An "M" mark on the face, you say... hmmm..
Never heard of that...It was probably done after it was released from the mint, and done by humans

I know it was said by now but the M stands for McNeil who is the artist. For more SLQ information and information of the design and models.

Shouldn't you have stated PROBABLY done by humans. Note there are apes being trained to make paintings. Also, if an alien landed here he would need some type of money and to make sure others would know he is here, he may have put his initials on that coin.
