Eye of the beholder?

Hey guys, it was was raining in northern ca today, so I decided to get $8 in cent rolls and comb through them.

Out of 16 rolls; all common memorials, nothing older than 1960. But I did find a 1960 that I simply fell in love with. It's a real beauty. However, I have a few questions that I'm hopeful some of you may be able to help a n00b out.

    1) how do I tell the difference between a 1960 L and S date? I saw a few auctions on evilbay and could not tell the difference.

    2) how do I take good pictures of my coins using a standard digital camera (without having to buy any equipment). Right now I use a magnifying glass, but my pictures never show the coin as it appears in person.

But looking at my 1960 that I found, it actually has a "rainbow" tone on the front and back of purples, pinks, blues, oranges/golds, kinda like oil in water. But my picture doesn't show ANY of it.

I don't have an eye for coin grading yet...I just know that I like it and that this coin is very visually pleasing...therefore, can anyone tell me where this would fall on the grading scale? I am curious if this is nice coin (grade-wise) or is this just a special piece in the eye of the beholder :)

Pics ain't bad and I'd say that '60 is a large date. Check out the six. If the tail on that six is close to being closed (almost looking like an 0) then you got yourself a small date.

I'd go 66 large date. That is a very nice coin. As to the picture problem download GIMP 2.6. Very helpful.

Oh and also make sure you have the coin at the right angle to capture the toning. The magnifying glass has worked for me.
