Unfortunatly I am in the same position as DJ but I do know I would have happily payed $8 for it :D (Even if it turns out to be a forgery LOL not saying that it is though)

This an obsolete note from the Bank of Virginia payable at Charleston. It is listed in the Haxby book as G116 and is listed with a value in VG of $10. This means the note is common but the Haxby books are old so the prices are outdated. I think the note is easily worth $8. It looks like the Bank of Virginia had 10 branches that issued it's notes. The notes were printed with the branch location hand written in. Obsolete notes are very interesting. This is a nice historical note and a nice buy.

Here is one from the year before to compare it to.
This note is listed as fine and has a $$ of 40

The note shown by OP looks washed to me...

They were getting a bit of mileage out of an outdated design, this note looks about 20 years older going on the design and layout, I wonder if this bank was started in the 1830's with a large printing that they drew off of still years later?
