Been absent from the form for sometime. I’m starting to buy more ancients but take this Augustus as minted by otho on top an original Roman terracotta tile from Germania.
You can go back and edit the post, including the title, I believe. And you probably should, otherwise this thread will go in a very different direction from what you'd planned. Welcome back!
Well played sir And Hades right back at chew Love the type! I sold mine years ago. Share the reverse and we're friends Here's my tall dark stranger:
Lovely example Now, do tell more about your Roman terracotta tile from Germania??? I've never had one of those before
Not a lot I can say personally, I’ve seen some that look similar but I’m sure these tend to be pretty unique varying on the builder. Got it from a relic/artifact shop I frequent in Tennessee who have quite a lot of ancient artifacts and more modern ones! This was labeled as being part of an ex piccini collection
Yes, but only the originator of the thread can do that: go to the first page of the thread, click on “Thread Tools” on the top right - select “Edit Title” from the drop-down menu.
Damn you! Oops, meant to say: Damn nice of you (to show us this cool specimen & especially the tile!)
Nice coin. Love the presentation on the tile! For a while I used mosaic tesserae I found in Israel as stands for some denarii. Looked really nice. No pics of them, I'm afraid. My one and only Augustus, a restoration issue under Nerva. No tesserae to show, but I like the portrait: 15,97 gr, 32,50 gr. Obv: DIVUS AUGUSTUS Rev: IMP NERVA IMP CAESAR AUGVSTVS REST RIC 135(ish) The seller didn't know what to make of the coin. Neither do I. Weight-wise it's in dupondius territory, but the issue only has sestertii. So it's an oddity.
