Hello fellow C.T friends, Here is a 1858-S dime, a date I have been looking for quite a while (always go for the key dates). Darkly toned, i think all original, but obviously well circulated. Also, an 1858 Half Dime, i think the "over inverted date" variety. I purchased this little fella as a regular 1858, and was surprised the date has the diags shwon in the Red Book for the inverted date. Very difficult to take pics of this coin! but i hope you can verify (or not) the variety, and hopefully the condition. Thanks! Eduard
Really nice finds. The 1858-S is a tough coin in any grade. The half dime looks right to me. Here is a large image.
Thank you very much! Yes, my coin has those wiggles between the numerals in the date too (maybe not quite as strong as in your pic though). I was hesitant before, but this appears to confirm it. There are also what seem to be clash marks on the reverse. I wonder if that is typical for the variety too? Pitty i cannot take a better picture, it is in a nice grade too. Eduard
Very nice dime and half dime. I have never searched for the 1858 inverted date Half Dime, nice find!!!
Thank you all! The 58-S is a coin which has been on my list for 15 years. Finally got around to buying one just recently. Grade-wise, do you all think it is a Fine, or will it make Very Fine?
