If it was Ebay they got them from, they're lucky all were Genuine. :goofer: I wish PSGS would at least give a Details Grade with the Genuine service but since they won't, I will never dew business with them. :goof: Ribbit
I do agree with you... buyer beware! My favorite auctions are the ones where they take a picture of the coin from like 6 feet away and don;t even bother cropping it. yea. I skip those
OK, I’VE SEEN THE LIGHT. :hail: “SO YEA... EBAY. LOVE IT OR HATE IT... THERE IS GOLD IN THEM THERE HILLS IF YOU ARE CAREFUL.” QUOTE BY RANCHHAND. OK, I WILL BE CAREFUL. I HAVE A BIT OR TWO LEARN, ALTHOUGH KNOWING I COULD BE ADVISED VIA COIN TALK IS COMFORTING. THANKS
One has to remember that with the new genuine service these type of submissions will become common. I would "guess" judging by the number of coins submitted (8) that these were all part of the 8 freebies given to new CU club members. Also, the coins submitted are key/semi key (popular. relatively speaking, I guess?) date/mm's. If I had a bunch of overrated, problem coins I would probably submit them on the free vouchers, just to get them into PCGS plastic to increase the rate of return. Or perhaps the owner cannot afford these pieces in problem free PCGS and still wants these "Genuine" holders to fill holes in a registry? Or, thrown in plastic prior to auction? A logical submission in my opinion.
Here is another one where someone went 8 for 8 on cleaned coins. 1 1 14003633 7264 1900 $1 US Cleaning 2 1 14003634 7188 1889 $1 US Cleaning 3 1 14003635 7128 1881-O $1 US Cleaning 4 1 14003636 7136 1882-O $1 US Cleaning 5 1 14003637 7118 1880-S $1 US Cleaning 6 1 14003638 7118 1880-S $1 US Cleaning 7 1 14003639 7128 1881-O $1 US Cleaning 8 1 14003640 7172 1887 $1 US Cleaning Total Items: 8
are you saying pcgs coins on ebay are fake. i have purchased tons of them of ebay, how would i know if i got a dud? what should i be looking for?
It is possible that the submitter just wanted the coins in PCGS problem holders to prove they are Genuine and for resale value. Scott
I think these are submitted for good reasons. We're forgetting that the "Genuine" label is just an authentication service. If you want to do a search, you'll find a ton of threads on this forum stating that if there is one good thing about the TPG's, it is as an authentication service. As Capped said, if I had a bunch of common keys and they had "problems", I'd want to get them in plastic to jack up their value.
thats why too many people but the plastic, a problem coin regardless of its rarity still is going to be less desirable than a problem free coin. Now don't get me wrong if a problem coin is the best you can afford for a super rare, key date, then by all means.

Now THAT looks like eBay purchases... Or someone knowing they have fakes trying to get them to holder as Genuine.

What you guys fail to realize is that there are many more quote "problem coins" out there then there is problem free. Long ago it was quite acceptable to clean coins in this hobby. Just about every morgan you see today has been fooled with to some degree or the next. What it boils down to is buy the coins you like and pass on the ones you don't.
