What do you think a cigar humidor full of cigars will do to a coin if kept in there for several months ?
I've been testing some morgans in cigar boxes expecting them to tone. So far, no luck. Your experiment seems worth a shot.

Sounds like an attempt at Artificial Toning, which is Coin Doctoring, which is unethical. Would you want someone to sell you a coin as Natural Toning which they had artificially manipulated ? The goal of my storage program is to keep all coins exactly as they are. 100%.
I use cigar boxes all of the time but I have never put any coins in one with the cigars in them. Give it a try. There is nothing unethical or artificial about storing coins in a cigar box.
I'm trying to re-tone a striped coin that I will keep in my collection, I don't believe it's unethical. As for the cigar box, it's not just a box. it's a storage box that has a sponge and a gauge that gives the humidity... the climate is at 70% Hum at all time
there is a difference between a cigar box and a humodor, a box is just that, a box. A humidor is typically lined with spanish cedar which is a relatively inert wood, since it is designed not to impart anything on the cigars that would affect the taste. so I don't see putting coins in a humodor at 70/70 doing much more than leaving it out on a kitchen table, unless you want to artificially raise or lower the humidity. What are you thinking it will do?
Humidity is BAD for coins and will NOT tone them. If you want to retone, put it in a window sill for a few months and flip it often.
depends on what your ambient humidity normally is, here in Texas where humidity gets up towards 100% you would have less, if you are in a dry climate it would be more, but like the other poster said, adjusting the humidity in a humidor I doubt will do much if anything for accelerating the process. And there is a good chance it will damage them.
Sounds like a worthwhile experiment. I wonder what effects the tobacco itself would have...possibly add some richness to the color?
Thats a possibility, but I wouldn't put my good tobacco with coins in there together. Would probably give it a metallic taste.
Yeah , I don't want to mess my rupees up more and I sure don't want to mess up my cigars. But I don't think that silver coins in my cigar humidor would damage my cigars. I can't see the taste change because of a few silver coins.
SIlver or gold maybe not, but I just get this mental smell of what a pocket change jar smells like getting on my $20 cigars and it doesn't appeal to me. I would think the 70% humidity would more likely lead to corrosion on a coin instead of toning no?
