I would even consider the chinese fakes as being ruined by a copy stamp. Because as soon as that stamp is on the coin, it is no longer a counterfeit but rather a reproduction/token. It is the illicit nature of these items that appeals to me.

Here is a Canadian loonie I got out of pocket change a few years back. A guy from Calgary, Alberta produced around 100 000 of them. By counterfeiting a loonie, he assumed that it would not draw much attention from the police, until he got greedy. He bought some real loonies from the bank and placed 1 authentic coin on each end of his fake rolls so if they were opened by the bank, they would not suspect anything. And after depositing a few rolls a day, be began depositing more and more. After a little bit the bank became suspitious to where he was getting all these loonies and called the police. I was told that the police recovered around 90 000 of them leaving around 10 000 in circulation. And the counterfeiter went to jail for a few years :( :hammer:.

Below it is a 1948 penny I also plucked from circulation.

Not heard about the loonies been forged before!! the difference for me is though that these are been aimed it seems directly at the collectors market were the original forgeries were meant to go into circulation and in the case of the German WWII effort with banknotes meant to bring down a goverment. I realy like the 1c that is cool :D

Actually there have been a few loonies counterfeited, the first was the 1990, and in 2006 a group from Montreal Quebec produced 2005 fake loonies and 2005 fake toonies. I only have a fake toonie, But I have seen a 2005 fake loonie.

Here is an article related to it.
