I’m happy to hear that, as I’m looking for a nice Papal medal for my mothers 76th birthday. It’s about time she starts to collect coins.
That "modern" medal proves that mints could produce nice coins today....then the bland/ so called modern art we have on our coin designs today.
I finally won...after 3 losses...lol. Also, I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer. Under my bids it says winning (instead of won) and it gives me the option to edit my bid, even though it has closed and I won it in the live auction. Is this just a glitch? Thanks!
I think it depends on the lot number you bid on. They are currently starting bidding on lot 1090 now so anything before that has already been sold.
I sure did the type you figured out from the Leu Auction! Well slightly different reverse, but same emperor!
It's kind of a bug, kind of a feature. You are not able to place or alter bids on lots that have already been hammered by the auctioneer. But, with the sale still "active," you can still place pre-bids on *upcoming* lots.
The NAC, I take it? I’m very pleased to hear this news, and looking forward to seeing it here. Congratulations!
My budget was restrained by previous auction wins in December/ November events. So, being low in $$$ I could afford around 5K. #1 coin loss (AV 1/12 Stater/ Macedon/ Philip II) #2 loss (AV 1/10 Stater Kyrene/ Revolt Issue)#3 loss EL Stater/ Kyzikos) #4 loss EL trite/ Lydia) Still have one in World section that I am leading.....so far John
I'm not sure if it was in NAC, I think it was in Triton a few years ago...but in any case, I'll post my own photograph of it when I have it in hand!
I repeat what I told you back in September.... If you want to have this "feature", then why did the website display the message bidding closes at xyz am with a countdown saying x hours y minutes left to bid? A new problem I never had before in the past is that I kept getting disconnected, the video was working fine but the lots were not advancing and I don't know how many times I had to press f5 or ctrl+f5. You should reconsider the 2 steps in pressing the bid button. The confirmation is just not useful. I had several bids rejected because of these steps. Or people need to press the bid button like shooting in a coin up machine. The prices were for one more time unreal. I managed to get one coin at a fair price (still above estimate) which was a surprise given the overall situation. I don't appreciate it was cataloged as unique when you can find a second in acsearch in less than 5 seconds. I knew it was not unique but maybe it played a role in the hammer price.
Well/ I ended up 0/6 Triton event. But there is Steve Album Auction + the Heritage Signature event next 4 days. I ended up winning three nice coins from Stacks/ AuctionWorld/ and Lansky Auctions, so all was not lost.
Totally and wholeheartedly agree. I suspect several auction houses are using a base auction software program/module which they modify slightly. I've faced the same issues with some auctions in Europe as well. Pressing twice in the heat of the moment means one can end up confirming a bid higher than one intended to, if someone else puts in a higher bid in the meantime.
I was just thinking that today I had returned from New York City after attending the Triton XXIII Auction and the NYINC. The reason I say today is that my flight home was so messed up that even though I left NYC at about 10 in the AM Monday Morning I did not get home until something like 3 AM Tuesday. I "enjoyed" something like a 12 hour layover. Yuuch. Triton XXIV was the first Triton in years where I did not get anything. Probably because while I usually have grand plans to purchase various coins none of them survive and often I am running down to the CNG viewing room to examine a coin which " might be okay" I seem to recall that out of the 20+ coins I was looking at before I went I got only one.
