I would think that NYC would be out of money in the ground by now. You sure have hauled it in. Congrats on your finds and the enjoyment that goes with it.

About how deep do you find the silver?
I would dig deeper here, except that the ground is full of clay and hard. I would have a hole about the size of a basketball.

Average 6 to 8 inches.. A few not as deep.
The Walker half was about 3 inches deep.
I have dozens of threads showing the finds.
    Some with YouTube videos ;)

The deepest I personally have dug is 9 inches . It's not the depth that matters . Case in point, I found two( 1753/1754 KG coppers at 2 inches in rocky ground .

@paddyman98 - Wonderful. So exciting. I never got to use my license. :-( I don't want to go out detecting alone. No clubs or others I could find in my area to go with. I wish you guys would come out my way sometime.

I think you should have reported that recent watch find as a "fossil". Finding a fossil with a metal detector "priceless".

License , What License ? No need for license here in Connecticut or MA that I know of . What's going on .

Some states require a license to metal detect. They also have rules and regulations that must be followed or you can pay a fine and have your license suspended. Every state is different.

I would , like Collecting Nut said, check with your own State officials . Just because it's legal here in CT. in the "State Forests" , doesn't mean it's legal everywhere . First rule : Get permission from land owner .

I know for a fact that Connecticut is legal in the state forests only . Not the Yale forest however . Only preps live there . ;)

I think the licensing applies to state and local property such as parks. They want people to respect the property and leave it as they found it.

Oh yea, some parks that are deemed a historical location are also off limits. That's why I go respectfully door to door . Just act and dress nice enough . The older the owner the better sometimes . The younger ones don't want to be bothered . I met a 105 year old lady who wanted to walk school site she went to in 1905 , this was in 2010 . It wasn't her land but she gave me permission anyways . LOL

    Why do you think that?
It's the correct process to do things.

Would you prefer that anyone that gets the huge to dig just digs with no serious consequences?

I'm pretty sure that if you paid the extortion fee and defaced public property you would and should get a fine, so why the fee? Let people be free and if they deface a park then make them pay. Don't pre charge people on the assumption they'll be guilty. Government fees are exclusionary and only allow those with the means to participate.
