Hey, I noticed this while perusing the bay. I have seen many of these ( sold most in rolls ) while searching the new Lincolns myself. The spike is consistant in size, length, and location on all the coins i have seen. The spike is not a die crack nor does it look like die polish to me. Does anyone have opinions on this and maybe a possible explanation? Maybe one could be sent to coin world like the 05 D Speared bison. Heres the link to the ebay page....http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-D-LINCOLN-...goryZ524QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Just when you thought people were alredy paying too much for Lincoln cents, along comes more food for suckers! Any guess as to how much some gullible fool will pay for this? My guess is $53.45.
Well, I think this guy would get this coin certified if he really thought it was a true error. Instead, he'll have to rely on people's ignorance to pedal this supposed "error coin."
Whatever it is, it looks as though it happened after the coin was in the press. So therefore, it is damaged and not an error. An error would be bidding on this coin.
These type errors are a dime a dozen These type errors are a dime a dozen it is just some type of planchet mark or scratch - if you look at as many cents as I do you know because I have seen it all over dies in every year.
Ignorance is abound her! is what looks like a cut in the planchet a die crack or just a scratch? I've seen several Lincolns this year with those such "scratches" all over Abe's face, hair, neck, jacket, but few or none on the open spaces of the coin. Mint Errors 7 doesn't seem to help this novice much!
