Why would someone pay this (14 bidders) for a replica? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=120390330462 I know the answer! There is no "replica" stamped on it. Knowing I could never afford a 1916D, I bought one (for a dime). When I got it, it had no "copy" or "replica" stamped on it, and it was a very nice copy! Take a look at all the copies he is selling-it is scary!!!! Now, here is my fear. The market could be flooded with these things and unknowing collectors will buy them as "bargains" at flea markets and such. What can we do????
The auction text also says it's made of copper, which it obviously isn't. My guess is he used an auction listing for an 09-s vdb as a template and didn't change the text. From the images it looks like a good replica, and at no time are they trying to pass it off as genuine. The market will pay what the market will bear eh?
There is some pretty serious doubling on the in god we trust. The coin is a nice copy but it still looks off. Ice
Yeah, ebay is full of this garbage. They do little to police this type of stuff. Just to make sure, I ordered one of these broken English deals to see if the word replica was on it. The answer was no, but it helped to make my collection more perfect! The sad thing is, the losers that normally buy these pass them off as genuine. So always do your homework before buying a key date...and never buy it on ebay.
